“All in a name”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

We used to use this pub years ago and it was excellent but went into sad decline. I always remember it as The George Inn, not sure when "Ye old" appeared - might have given it 5 stars otherwise.

More importantly, it has now returned to being an excellent pub restaurant and we had a very good lunch with 3 friends so with 5 of us we sampled a fair bit of the set menu. Both the risotto and the belly of pork were very well received and the fish pie was excellent. Sweets were good and if there were no great surprises the Almond and apple tart was considered excellent. The set meal at £16 95 for two courses is not particularly cheap but given the overall standard neither was it particularly dear.

There was a good choice of wine by the glass at reasonable (if not exceptional) prices and the draft bitter was well received. I'm afraid the same could not be said for the expresso coffee which could have been had up under the trade description act, it was so weak and tasteless. However, we do like our coffee black and strong but that is how expresso should taste!! Service was fine and we were well received and given all the time we wanted without any undue delay.

If you don't know the area, East Meon is a beautiful village in a lovely part of Hampshire. Old Winchester Hill is a few minutes drive away with lovely walks and stunning views. The area and The George are both well worth a visit.

“Great B&B, lovely pub, great food”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

We stayed here whilst walking the South Downs Way. The room we had was excellent, very comfy and well equipped, with a lovely view of the church. The food in the pub was excellent, I had a beautiful piece of belly pork, followed by a very good cheesecake. The service was good considering there was a large party of students and a visiting cricket team in the pub. The beers on tap were also excellent. All in all a good time was had.

This pub has 5 rooms for B&B. If you fancy travelling around the beautiful Meon Valley and enjoy wonderful food and excellent beer/wine give this place a try. The service is first class.

“Great Venue”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This was a great restaurant we were seem to our table quickly, the drinks arrived quickly an the food arrived promtly too. The venue itself has parking to the rear and is located in a village so I am sure in summer it will be nice to take a walk too. Smallish menu but something for everyone. We had no issues finding something we wanted. All the courses were well presented and all had great flavours and taste. When back in the area will visit again. I would book as it seemed to be very popular.
