I went to Costa Rica for 2 weeks, mainly for a change of pace from the urban life I am so used to. I didn't really have any set goals other than to learn a new way of life, eat food from the ground, and learn a little bit about living on a farm. And to drink coconut water out of a coconut, not from a $3 juice box on the streets of NYC. I chose Finca Rio Perla on a whim and I can't be happier I did. For one, it is authentic. I spent every day with a wonderful Costa Rican woman who taught me everything I wanted to know about gardening, farming, cooking, Costa Rican life in general. Great for my Spanish. Vivian and her family were the most welcoming, generous people I could have asked to stay with. Second to note is the beauty - Finca Rio Perla is tucked way up in the hills and you are surrounded by the most vibrant colors, nature, animals, birds, waterfalls, etc. I spent hours each day taking photos. The farm dog, Perro Perro is the coolest dog I've ever met. Lastly, I actually truly enjoyed all the work I did. Maybe I was lucky because I was the only volunteer while I was there, but we did a variety of tasks, from making cheese to milking cows to planting vegetables to bathing horses. I worked really hard for several hours in a day, and worked up a huge appetite just in time for a daily cooked meal by Vivian that was always delicious.
I could go on, but basically if you are looking to relax, (but also work hard if you are a volunteer), disconnect and experience a different lifestyle and beautiful surroundings in comfortable lodging, I recommend this place.

From the initial bumpy ride into Finca Rio Perla, I knew that this was going to be a unique place. I immediately felt welcome by the staff and the wonderful fresh food made there. While the rooms were simple, it was perfect to relax, listen to nature surrounding you and enjoy the beautiful environment. Even the activities were great too, everything from milking cows to riding horses to planting trees. If you want to be one with beautiful nature, Finca Rio Perla is for you.

We loved this place, peacefull, calm, nature, away from the city,. tourists. Food is amazing, the hosts ara fabulous. It was my best stay in costa Rica. You can walk on the site for hours, see cascads, swim, pet the animals, be in the jungle. I just loved waking up with the sounds of the howling monkeys. The hosts are so respectuous of the nature, it was a great experience and I recomand it to everyone. My 15 year old daughter loved it too.

Thank you
