The beauty of this place is not just in the place itself, but starts with the drive to Pangot. From Nainital, it's a short half an hour (ish) drive to this perfect little village. The entire drive is full of breathtaking views, not just of the surrounding forests and hills but also of the magnificent Himalayas.
When we reached Mountain Quail there was a light drizzle and clouds were enveloping us. What a welcome!! :) When they say a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow they must mean this place!!!!
What i really liked was the log cabins we were staying in. Absolutely rustic, cozy, warm and inviting. And imagine sleeping in such a place, with the music of the rain on a tin roof, a stream gurgling within earshot and a cuppa hot chai!
Stepping out of the log cabin and taking a little walk over of our new 'nest' for the next couple of days was like a small exhilarating adventure of discovery. Terraced fields growing pototoes and peas, small fruit orchads growing apple, plum, cherries..... the massive resident Bhutia dog (that looks like a full blooded lion, and scary as one too!!)....
a table tennis rigged up under a parachute....the kitchen from where the most delicious aromas reached our ravenous souls.
We spent an unforgettable week here. Walks to the local village just about a km down the road (for dhaba chai and chana), drives to nearby villages and the Nainital Yatching Club (in Nainital...obviously!) for an evening out... And just relaxing with a book at times. By the time we were to leave we had to find excuses not to!!
Our hosts, Sid and Bhavna, who run the place were the perfect hosts. It was awesome to meet them and get to spend some time with them, in front a small bonfire, under the stars..... I'm definately coming back. And soon is not soon enough.
