“Jungle Lore - A Birding Paradise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

We recently went for a short trip to Pangot near Nainitaal - which proved to be truly a Birder's Paradise. Stayed at this wonderful place known as Jungle Lore Birding Lodge. Go there for Birding, Tasty Home cooked meals, excellent hospitality and brilliant Accommodation in the lap of nature! U will definitely come back asking for more.
Will head back there soon. Best time to go birding is in the Winters but if you want to relax and get away from the city madness then Jungle Lore is the place to go even in Summers!

Stayed April 2013, traveled as a couple

The small birding lodge is apprx 20 kms from Nainital but the drive is beautiful and the lodge very nicely made in a rustic sense. We got to see some beautiful birds while just having a cuppa tea or taking a stroll in the property. Not avid bird watchers we developed an interest seeing such beautiful birds around us. Having said that the place is a good getaway for non bird watchers as well since it offers a peaceful and tastefully done up place with some great home cooked meals. In case u like to hv a power packed holiday with lot of activities and people around please do not venture there, for others looking for a peaceful holiday far away from the maddening crowds u will not regret the decision to hv booked in the resort.

Room Tip: Go for the bigger rooms and the best room is right at the entry with awesome views of the mountains

We visited during summer holidays in May and our first impression was like we made a best choice by booking this resort. Extremely friendly and caring staff, tasty food, and location is perfect near the valley. Birding experience was excellent and unique. A must visit place for bird lovers, very relaxing and most importantly go for atleast 2 nights stay to enjoy the overall ambiance of this great place.

An overnight plan worked out magically and in no time I took a leave from work and we (A group of my hubbie's pals mainly) were on the road. We left the city at the crack of dawn to ditch heavy traffic from Ghaziabad to Uttarakhand. The ride to my hometown, Uttarakhand is always a pleasant one which was made even better with the company of some old friends.
Voila! finally after a delicious lunch at a small restaurant overlooking Nainital Lake we made it to Jungle Lore Birding Lodge. The girls in the gang were excited and the guys were relieved to have found a great place to stay. There were somewhere around 4 cottages inside the resort and a dining area. The place can be compared to nothing less than an oasis of beauty and elegance. There was a sense of English charm about the cottages which were intricately decked with beautiful curios and overlooked enchanting greens.

I Describe:

Decor- Classy
Ambiance- Peaceful
Library- Charming
Dining Hall- Elegant
Food Quality- Awesome
Services- Efficient

Now, what more could we've asked for. A weekend full of glee was spent at Jungle Lore Birding Lodge and we have been singing praises ever since...- Happy Visitors

Room Tip: The first cottage, the one atop a library has the best view and thus is the best choice...try and ge...

A warm and welcoming lodge, with friendly staff, comfortable rooms, excellent food, and ideally placed for exploring the forest and hillsides around Pangot. The place is quite cold in December when we stayed, but we were given a gas heater, and were brought hot water bottles at bedtime, and the dining room has a wood fire. You can come & go as you please, make your own tea and sit on the balcony watching the bird feeding area. A really relaxing place to visit, quite a contrast from the hustle & bustle of nearby Nainital.

I visited during Monsoons in July and was completely mesmerized form the time I left the road from Nainital to take this uphill 15 km journey. From amidst dark clouded skies and cheena peak jungles, I reached the Lodge facing torrential rain. However did not deter me one bit cause I knew am heading to something truly valuable.
The car and driver arranged by them were comfortable and the driver drove very well despite the weather condition. Being a single woman traveler I felt safe and comfortable at all times.
Once I reached, since it was raining found two helpers standing with umbrellas near the parking to help me. They lead me down a flight of stone stairs into my cottage “Cheer Pheasant”. And I fell in love…. Not an exaggeration but the warmth of the place and hospitality will grip you indeed.
A round chair, an iron fire place, a tea corner, a high wooden bed, a wooden stairs set up into my room attic with an added floor bedding, a sliding door into the bathroom, clean and sweet…all of it was gorgeous.
The big wooden sit out balcony with chairs gave ma an unending view of the mountains. Little things in the room carefully placed with a heart in everything. Lizard pattern table, elephant and deer wooden clothes pegs. Triangle cupboard under the wooden stairs to attic. A table fan for summer days.
My cottage was above the library that had gorgeous unending books. Lots of bird books, carom board for children. Warm again.
Did not enter the other cottages but they were at levels below and looked as inviting to me. They also had sit outs.
All cottages seemed to be on different natural split levels making each one independent personal and secluded.
The dining space is another world. A world to meet and chat with people. Good food, very good food, no menu card but who needs one when their choice guarantees everything on table is delicious. They made some soup for me on request. Non veg served on demand. I recommend everyone to take time to see each decorative piece in the dining placed with love and care. Unique in every sense. An iron carved owl, a big…bigggg hardened mushroom, jute birds and the china ware.
Now for outside, am afraid don’t have many words to describe the beauty of Pangot. Please visit and walk a lot to sense it yourself. Try not to fall in love. Birding was a fantastic experience here. Saw many varieties.
Caution : If you are a network and TV freak, to whom the beauty of nature lasts only few hours, may please avoid going to this place. If un-interfering langurs bother you, or your panic noises could bother them, then too please avoid disturbing the ecology of this place.
Must carry : Binoculars, camera and the nature spirit.
Minimum recommended stay – 2 nyts or more or another trip for sure.
Must do – Nature walks with the bird guide. Ask for the road seldom taken by the stream.
And in the end, Kudos to team Jungle Lore and Himlayan lodges for making this so noteworthy that am there again on 22nd December this year.
Downsides : Just one, seemed the cab fare charged for more than logical which is being corrected in this trip hence no regrets.

Room Tip: All should be good, Cheer Pheasant for great views. Else take any, you are bound to spend most time...

The best place in Uttarkhand and posibly in North India, for enjoying peace, nice surroundings, excelent team, nice food, a lot of birds (and monkeys!) around. Please don't bring music here just listen to the birds singing. We have been here 3 times from the begining 12 years ago.Thank you very much everybody and keep green and natural!
