The rugged stone cottage, numerous artifacts, lovely flowering plants all over the place and hundreds of birds chirping around the campus makes this one of the best places to stay if you are a serious birder and bird photographer.

Room Tip: I loved the farthest cottage down under. My daughter loved the attic in the room.

We stayed during the coldest cold spell in recent times so found the room very cold, but they provided a gas heater which helped us through the nights. The lodge itself is pleasant, and includes bird-friendly habitat which meant we added three life species just in the grounds. The staff are warm and friendly and very very helpful and accommodating. Their naturalist was aslo really very good at spotting local bird specialiaties. The food was the healthiest and best quality overall throughout our stay in India which included a number of much posher hotels and lodges. Further, I would recommend Pangot as a good for birding around Nainital and Sattal too.

Great place to stay in the laps of nature. I visited with my family and parents and what a wonderful experience it was...... Though one whole day it was raining but we could still enjoy nature sipping Hot tea and coffee. Even the drive from Nainital to Pangot is mesmerizing. Staff at Jungle Lore is quite hospitable and serve some real good homely food that too of your choice..There are lot of activities that one could indulge into viz. Bird watching, tracking, biking...a real getaway retreat from busy life.

Room Tip: The main cottage above Library is the best place to stay

Jungle Lore Birding Lodge is not just a resort or any other hotel for us . I and my wife have been visiting this place from October 2000 ( almost 11 years ) every year . This place is like my second home and staff members and owners are like my extended family . It is difficult to recall the number of times I have visited this place . Excellent , the beauty of this place can not be described in words and it can only be experienced . Hope to visit soon during this winters.

We stayed here for 2 nights in October 2010. We went to Pangot specifically for Bird watching and we were definitely not disappointed. Pangot is around 17 kms. from Nainital, but it's mostly a dirt road. It's a very quaint place literally in the middle of nowhere.
The Jungle Lore birding lodge is an excellent property providing a surprisingly comfortable stay in what is essentially a very tiny village.

Pros:
Spacious well-furnished cottage with a huge bathroom & excellent running hot water.
Very clean.
Artistically designed.
The room heater was really welcome as it was quite cold there.
Ghanashyam, the bird-watching guide there was really excellent.
Fantastic homely food (at least the veg. options as we're vegetarians)
Good privacy as there is a lot of distance between each cottage.
Very quiet and peaceful.
Extremely friendly and warm staff.

Cons:
The lodge is not well-marked. If you're driving by yourself, you can easily miss it. We had a bit of trouble finding the place at night even though it was just 8 p.m.
From our cottage to the reception / dining room, it's a 5 minute walk up a slightly steep incline.
We went for a guided village walk (which was excellent). On the way back, it became dark and the guide lost the way (in spite of us telling him earlier that we should retrace our steps instead of the 'short cut' that he seemed to know). It was a harrowing 1 hour walk in total darkness on a very steep mountain in the forest. Not safe. The guide should be better trained.

Spent a delightful extended weekend at the Jungle lore Birding Lodge, pangot. The views, the green hills in the rain, the complete absence of tourists, the not reachable cellphone and the abundance of Birds makes this the perfect place to exhale all the muck and grime of the big city and Inhale the sparkling mountain air.

The Lodge itself is about 10years old and completely a part of the Landscape, Creepers, plants and beautiful garden artifacts make each nook and cranny a delight to explore. We were initially alloted the Jungle Cottage, but looking at the difference in elevation between the cottage and the dining cottage, we asked to be allotted the upper cottage as we did not want the kids go up and down. The upper cottage has a large verandah and we spent most of our waking hours there enjoying the rains, the changing panorama of lifting clouds and the valley below.
The rains gave us a break to enjoy the birding as well and could manage two sessions of birding in the adjoining hills. The light was never to good and we were restricted to wherabouts of 1600 ISO to get decent handheld speeds. Hariom the birding guide was most patient with my 8 year old who prides himself on being Mr Birder..!!! Though his expectation of getting to see a Kokhlas Pheasant was not to be, he had a fun time with the guys at the lodge, playing carrom when it rained.
For us, the well stocked library, with its large windows and comfortable window cushion was a great place to hangout.
The food was simple and outstanding, the Kids had a great time.
Will certainly go again in the summer to enjoy a more serious birding trip.

Pangot is a b'ful, close to nature and lovely place to stay. Those who are fed up of everyday's hectic schedule n life can go there and have a peaceful, transquil, quality time, away from everybody n every bad memory. Rooms are okay, there is NO network connectivity inside the rooms, if you want to make a call the staff will take you to a network point, where there u'll get network. Rooms dont have any TV/Radio or anything. Keep your laptop, dvd's with you if u cant live w/out them. NO room service, food is good, u hv to tell the chef abt ur choice to eat n he'll cook it fresh n tasty. I'hv been there twice and wud love to be there again in near future. Mind it - Dont expect five star treatment but its neat n comfortable stay for sure.
