“A wonderful place and wonderful hosts”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

This is an outstanding place to stay, relax, visit in the area. The hosts, Sander and Rommie, make you feel as part of the family and the food is as good as you will find anywhere. The area around Bugarach is a delight with hiking and cycling perfect activities to enjoy. Relaxing in the garden with a nice book is also a very much sought after activity. The feel of the area, the ambiance of the hosts and the tranquility experienced in the shadow of the Pic cannot be expressed adequately in a short review. Go once and you will return again and again. I do !

We were on a camping holiday in June and spent part of the time in this region of France. My walking guide on the Cathar Way described this B&B so beautifully, that I was almost hoping for an excuse to have a night away from the tent. The changeable June weather obliged and we booked ourselves in and I am so glad we did.

We approached Bugarach from the north along an amazing road that wound its way up to the plateau and then round the Pech de Bugarach. Stunning scenery and not as scary as the road atlas suggested. Le Presbytere is a fabulous building, beautifully renovated with a lovely garden. Our huge room at the top of the house was one of the most lovely rooms I've ever stayed in 5* luxury hotels included. The simple furniture, luxurious bed-linen, just everything has been so well thought-through to make one feel a calmer, better person just for being there.

Rommie and Sander were both lovely (I'm seriously running out of adjectives for this review) and welcoming. Dinner was like a evening out with friends at a Michelin star restaurant. The food was exquisite, the wine kept coming, the conversation flowed, getting louder and louder, which is always the sign of a succesful evening.

Breakfast was more of the same, but without the wine obviously....

This is a very special place and we would contemplate a significant detour to return on future holidays. It is also the most amazing value for money.

Room Tip: Bedroom on top floor is exquisite. I saw two other rooms, which were equally fabulous. I liked th...

There really is nothing more to be said than the title.

The rooms are delightful. The setting is stunning. The care of Rommie and Sander is outstanding. The garden is gorgeous. The food is Michelin quality.

Do not come here expecting it to be on the road, or near, to anywhere. But, if you want understated charm and peace away from noise and bustle, then this place is truly exceptional.
