Centauria Lake Resort
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Embilipitiya
Reviewed December 30, 2013

Large room and toilet, clean linen, view over a lake, in situ spa, ample parking, lots of steep steps to climb to get to the reception (!) and basic food would sum up our experience.

To be fair, the hotel is under renovation and the usual entrance is closed. There was a faulty plug point in the room which sparked, however we bravely managed to make coffee!

Had a foot massage and foot bath at a discounted rate of Rs.550 during xmas.

First of all don’t forget this is a 2 star hotel and I think some of the present reviews forget that.
Location is actually quite good and perfect for a morning or afternoon jeep tour in Uda Walawe National Park … plenty of wild elephants, eagles, crocodiles, jackals and buffalos … don't miss the safari if you can.
There was a typical wedding party when we arrived and that was astonish to see because some of the guests were wearing traditional costumes and performing local dances.
With a lovely balcony over the lake, our room was big, comfortable, immaculately clean and with all the commodities; also coffee and tea facilities were present . The bathroom was also very good with a large bath/shower and the usual free stuff, shower gel & shampoo.
Dining and breakfast room is old fashioned and need to be refurbish. Food, buffet style with local and European dishes, was good enough… plenty of fresh fruit at breakfast was very good and a nice detail.
The staff were friendly but some of them need to learn better English. Internet Wi-Fi was available in the lobby, but we had to walk around before finding a spot with sufficient network.
Hotel highlights: good location, nice facilities including a big pool, gardens, terrace bar and views … the sunset over the lake was spectacular and we were able to see lots of wild life.

Not too bad for the price we paid ...

Room Tip: Chose a lake view room

The lake side location of this hotel is great. However, the hotel lobby is currently under renovation, and therefore the windows and curtains are constantly closed, turning the main lobby and restaurant area into a sauna.
However, the newly renovated rooms are very good, and the bathrooms are top notch.
The food is not really very great, basic buffet dinner and breakfast.
The pool are is nice, but we refrained from swimming due to the adjacent work area. The spa is very charming, and the massage was ok, but not great.
This hotel is ok for one night, as a base for visiting Udawalawe National Park.
Free wifi in the lobby area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake.

This hotel was very stupid hotel, because hotel people was not helpful.they not allowed credit card and service was very bad.view was nice, service and attitude was bad.
They have to improve their service and get good trained people to work.now they doing some renovations but they have to do with less noice and less dust.
Later this hotel will be good one, but before that they have to trained people.

This was one hotel chosen to stay for the night on our office trip. First i did not have a good impression since its build some time back and read some bad reviews about it. And insisted my manager and the rest of the people to shift rooms to some other hotel. However we had to spend the night at Centuria tourist hotel. Its quite worth the stay. The rooms were very much comfertable and very clean and specious. We stayed in a triple room also known as Villas. They were seperated like seperate houses so privacy was alwasy there. The room had a nice balcony with the lake view. There were boat rides available and a lovely swimming pool too. The towels bed linen were very fresh in the rooms.
Unfortunatly we could not taste the hotel food since we went went for a different hotel to have meals.
Am glad to say this is a hotel that change my whole perspective built because of bad riviews read. Or maybe they have imroved after the reviews. However we all had a wonderful time there.

An old hotel now undergoing a large extension & the rooms have yet to be done. Food was served in a huge ballroom style restaurant, a long way from the kitchens so arrived cool. Quality of food not brilliant e.g Beef Stroganoff was made with chopped smoked sausage which was almost inedible!

Room Tip: Available rooms all have a/c but still awaiting refurb

We spent 1 week doing an Ayurveda treatment at Centauria lake resort. We were welcomed warmly and all the staff was very considerate, friendly and helpful.
The room was nice with a balcony overseeing the the beautiful lake. The food was excellent. We got a diet according to Ayurveda principles comprising authentic Sri Lankan food.
The treatments were excellent and we were very well looked after. Finishing by a flower bath one could only dream about considering the cold European winter!
The Uda Walawe National Park and elephant orphanage are close by where you can see lots of elephants and other animals.

Room Tip: We had a room at the lake with balcony where you have a very private feeling. There are also new Vil...
