It is a perfect place to stop before or after a trip to Uda Walawe. We spent there one night before safari. Despite there was some renovation going on and only upstairs rooms were available we had a great time there. Rooms are clean and cosy and the staff is very helpful. There is also a small swimming pool, where we spent nice evening, relaxing and watching gigant bats flying over our heads.

Whats more they organised a safari jeep for us which was only 4500 rupees. They also provided us with a takeaway breakfast packed into a cute pink basket.

It is definitely a place worth recommendation.

Dear Guest, Welcome to TripAdvisor, we are glad to see that you had rated us for the first time. Your review was a sigh of relief for us. We considered the hotel was closed between 12th Sept to 30th Sept due to renovations. We blocked all our booking engines for these few days. But we were simply astonished by the number of guests who walked into our place and despite our reluctance, they had decided to stay at our place. Yes we clearly separated upstairs with down stairs where the construction was going on. And also made sure that no work is done after 6pm. Thank you so much for your understanding. To be honest, we were not so happy to provide accommodation knowing that we were not giving our guests 100% privacy, quietness and freedom. But to hear that you have enjoyed the safari and the pool was indeed a relief. I hope you have enjoyed the rest of your stay here in Sri Lanka and made the best of our beautiful country. We wish that you would come back to our beautiful country once again and possibly stay with us again.

Our room was clean but quite small, with air conditioning and hot water in the bathroom. The hotel organised a beautiful safari in the Uda Walawe national park. We travel on an excellent jeep and we saw a lot of animals in the early morning. The hotel gave us also a good packed breakfast.
Overall quite basic but really well managed.

Dear Giovanni, Thank you for your kind words. We are a small hotel and like you have mentioned some of our rooms are quite small but we try to compensate for it by offering many facilities that you usually do not get in another place, especially at this price range. Also more than anything we try to make it a point to keep the place very clean and tidy. It’s nice to see that our guests appreciate this. And like everyone else says, we never really fail to impress anyone with the amazing safari to Uda Walawe National Park. It’s lovely to hear that you had a great time there. Please do come back to our country again and hopefully you can cover the Sinharaja rain forest too.

The hotel is close to the bus station (walking distance). The rooms are clean but very small. The bathrooms are basic and we had no hot water during our stay. However, like others have mentioned this hotel does organise an amazing national park. The jeep had super comfortable seats, and a roof, which came in very handy once the sun was up. The morning was recommended as the best time to go, and we where lucky enough to see many elephants, buffalo, jackals, spotted deers, snakes, monkeys, jungle cats, peacocks, and even elephant, buffaloes and crocodiles drinking from the same lagoon. We where given a packed breakfast which we happily ate during the safari.
Once back we spent the afternoon lazying by the pool; we did venture into town, but found nothing of interest. It is very well maintained and clean.
Overall a good base to see the elephants at the national park.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your lovely comments. We have hot water in all our AC rooms. We do not have hot water facility in non-AC rooms. We are sorry about this misunderstanding, this was also clearly mentioned in the website. Despite this matter, we are so glad to hear that you had a wonderful safari and that you have highly recommended the safari with us for others.

Let me just tell you that, if you had spotted a Jackal and a wild cat, then you are EXTREMELY LUCKY, they are not so easily spotted in this park. So you seems to have really enjoyed the time in the park. We have recently given a facelift for all our jeeps and it’s so nice to hear that guests appreciating the upgrades of our services.

I sincerely hope that you had a wonderful time here in our beautiful country and you would come back again. And perhaps you can visit us again for another safari and to do a Sinharaja rain forest trek as well.

I'll start by saying the only reason to go to Embilpitiya is to get to Uda Wallawe. The town itself doesn't have anything to offer tourists.

Pavana Resort is reasonably well located, an 8 minute walk from the bus station. There's a large space downstairs that seems to be rented for weddings and a great, clean pool out the back. The rooms aren't anything much to speak of, but the beds were comfortable enough and there was AC. The bathroom was hot and not terribly inviting. The view from the window was of the guy next door and his fairly run down place!

The owner/manager is very attentive (at times a little too much so) but the tour he organised to Uda Wallawe was PERFECT and worth every cent. The truck you go out in was better than any of the others we saw and the driver was almost as good as the guide at spotting the wildlife. Skip the breakfast the hotel offers, however.

If you want to go to Uda Wallawe and just want an overnight stay this place is fine.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your detailed review. Apart from few coastal cities in Sri Lanka together with few others, most other cities are not what someone may consider to be ‘touristy’. But we are lucky and been much appreciated by many of our guests have been located very closer to 2 restaurants, bar, Ayurvedic Massage Centre, Super market, ATM machines, hospital and more importantly to the main bus station. If someone visit Uda Walawe they simply have 2 choices to select, stay near Uda Walawe park area or Embilipitiya town. Many decide on Embilipitiya because of easy access to transportation and shops compared to in Uda Walawe where you are stuck in the middle of jungle in expensive hotels without any close by place to visit and have only to eat expensive hotel food.

We are a city hotel and we never advertise saying that we have a ‘view’, we purposely kept our back garden with lot of privacy to ensure that our guest can have a good quite time near the pool. There are number hotels near Chandrika lake ‘with a view’ but they will be at least 5 times more expensive than our prices.

Despite all that it’s nice to hear that you enjoyed the safari. And like you have correctly mention we cater primarily to the guests visiting national park and we have never failed to impress anyone with the safari. We have got to know from another review of yours that it was the room floor that you felt was not clean. This would have been an rare mishap that any hotel usually encounter. We are sorry about it. Please be rest assured that it will be communicated to the staff at the hotel.

Rooms are small but have all the essentials. Staff were very friendly and helpful and even packed us a little lunch to take on our safari! We had a non AC room and despite the mosquito net, got attacked by mosquitos so I would reccommend an AC room for this matter. They have games you can borrow and a list of walks in the area you can can..also a nice swimming pool (didnt swim though...). Perfect location a short walk up from the bus stop which also means its easy to bus to the Safari Park if you wish :) However, the hotel offers cheap Safaris anyway. Not much going on in Embilipitiya but a good place to stay to get to the park and experience a local little town.

Dear Rosie,

Thank you for your lovely comment and it’s nice to hear you had a great safari and enjoyed your stay with us. As for the mosquito problem, if you had tucked the net under the mattress, this problem should not have happened. We have nets in all our rooms. Plus we have various types of mosquito repellents/solutions that we provide in case they are requires. Usually a net is sufficient and very rarely we get requests for other types of mosquito control. Nevertheless we are very sorry that about the problem. We have now taken one step forward and try to offer the guest any additional mosquito controls on our own. Despite this minor problem, we were glad to hear that you had a nice stay. If you even come back to Sri Lanka, please do stay with us so that you can also explore Sinharaja Rain Forest from our hotel which is just a day excursion.

We stayed one night as part of a round trip in Sri Lanka and the night before safari in Uda Walawe National Park. The hotel is clean and friendly, offers wifi and the staff is very helpful and offered to pack our breakfast at 5am in the morning for us to bring to the park. The city itself is not much to explore and through our driver we managed to find a restaurant that served us a good dinner at night. This can otherwise be tricky if you're traveling on your own as there is not much on offer nearby. There is about a 30 minute drive to the safari park but all in all it was worth the stay instead of the much more expensive safari lodges next to the park. Not to be ruled out, a very friendly little place!

Dear Guest, thank you for your comments. Its nice to hear that you had enjoyed our hospitality and the appreciated our staff. As for the things to do around the area, Embilipitiya is a more popular choice than Uda Walawe because of its a town with many facilities such as restaurants, bars, super market, easy access to transportation etc. But I must admit that Embilipitiya is less "tourist oriented" compared to the southern coastal cities. There are benefits of this as most things are reasonably priced.

Most guests who stay with us tend to do the following in the city. They walk to the close by restaurants, bar to wine and dine. Also we have kept 2 bicycles free of charge for the guests to take a ride in the city, or to visit the nearby famous lake. Or else they tend to go to the Ayurvedic Spa which is located just 100m from our hotel. But by far the most popular activity is to spend some time near the pool, swimming, sun bathing or reading.

We are sorry that you felt that the area did not have much to offer. We will find a way to communicate what activities that can be done in the area to other guests in the future. Thank you again for your valuable comment.
