“Nice place, but...”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Service:
We told the staff of this Guesthouse in advance, that we will arrive at 3 pm. But we had to wait 3 and a half hours (!) until anybody with keys came and let us into to room. The boss had sended in the meantime an safari driver, who tried to persuade us to a safari in the afternoon for 5000 rs, but we wanted to go early in the morning. During our waiting time we walked into the town (20min by foot) and met other travelers and arranged a safari together for the next time for 6000 rs for 7 people - what the boss afterwards obviously didn't like.

Guesthouse:
Nice house, huge room. Shared bathroom not in best shape and packed with many mosquitos. Location on a huge lake is nice, we read there for hours and enjoyed to see people having fun in the water.

Dinner:
Couldn't say it was cheap, and it was really spicy. But in town your will probably not find much better options.

Recommendation:
In our travel-book it was not mentioned that there is a village called "Uda Walawe", but as we drove to the park, we've seen lots of guesthouses. Maybe it's a good thing to sleep somewhere closer, take a driver nearby (there are many of them) and travel on after the safari.

The guesthouse is operated by a family, maybe they had some problems in the time we were there.

The accommodation wasn't great, but not tfairly sparse lighting. The shower didn't really work particularly well either, with minimal pressure or hot water. On the plus side, it's a nice peaceful location, the hosts are very kind, they serve lovely dinner and breakfast, and the safari to Uda Walawe (5000Rs for a jeep, half day) was great with a nice trustworthy guide. Fine stop for a safari

Nimal was a good host and was justly proud of the traditional Sri Lankan cuisine he provided.
Birdwatching from the veranda occupied a day in it's own right.
The spacious front room had mos net and fan.
Quiet peaceful location, well away from the main road.
The full day safari to Uda Walawe, organised by Nimal, was the wildlife highlight of our tour. We had time to park and wait while elephants approached us, rather than chasing after them. The guide was experienced and knowledgeable. He was keen to meet our requirements of the safari, but we had no idea we would see such a diversity.

We had the pleasure to stay two nights in this nice family-run homestay. The owners are welcoming though discreet. The place itself is very "feel-good", clean and well-kept. The architecture of the house has a mediteranean flavour. The lake is a just few steps away with a lot of waterbuffalos. But the incredible feature of this place was the food ! definetely the best of our trip ! very very tasty, a must-try !

We stayed two nights at this place and we really enjoyed it. The family is so friendly and we were treated as friends. The Food was delicious and the room is spacious and clean. The guest house only has two rooms and a shared bathroom. They organise trips into the Udawalawa National Park. The guest house is located directly at the lake.

My wife and I have just returned from a short trip in Sri Lanka. We wanted a flavour of the country; so we watched the cricket, went to the beach and took in a national park. When visiting Uda Wallawa national park, we found Lake View Lanka guest house. It's a small, family run guest house serving fantastic food and a taste of what the country is really about. As well as being close to the national park, it is easy to while away the hours watching the monkey's in the garden and birds around the lake. The scenery is nearly as beautiful as the family you stay with.
