We cannot fault this well run hotel in the delightful town of Montignac. Isabelle and Vincent Nourrisson are fully committed to ensuring that your stay will be memorable. The rooms are spacious and very clean, the cuisine excellent, superb wine list and the service is faultless. The garden is beautiful, secluded and quiet. We just wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely return. By the way, one of the few hotels in France that can make a decent cup of tea!

The stay begins with the most wonderful welcome, every attention to detail and the hotel owners could not have done enough to help us enjoy both the hotel and this wonderful part of France. Food excellent and the demi -pension rate is excellent value. The rose gardens and pool area are beautiful and tranquil. We felt the restaurant and hotel offered 5 star standards and we will return for another visit when we again travel through France.

A very quaint and historic former private home set almost directly on the riverbank. We stayed only one night here on the 5th of May and felt very welcome. The grounds are exceptional and the room was lovely, though, seemed a bit "tired" and could use a bit of freshening up. Having said that, the peaceful surroundings and sound of the river enabled us to enjoy a solid night's rest. The best croissants in France were served for breakfast, however, the selections in the morning were rather limited but all tasty. We found our hosts to be most hospitable and informative! Bathrooms were updated and modern, spotlessly clean throughout. Overall, a fortunate find after a long day's road travel. As mentioned in an earlier review, unusual to charge for internet access in this day and age and there was no in-room access.

As I was looking for the hotel La Roseraie phone number to rebook again for 06/09 through the internet, I was shocked to see the awfull comments made by just a few (still too many) about the owners of this lovely place in Montignac (Dordogne). Surely, these people didn't stay in the same place as we did. Both Isabelle and Vincent were the most pleasant human being we could have meet!! Always there to help and made us feel so special through out the 2 weeks we were on holidays. Not only with us, with other guess as well. As mention on the previous post, Mr Vincent recommended few places to have diner within Montignac and around, and was more than happy to do so. I recommended this beautifull establishment to lots of my dear friends. They loved it. keep doing the good job (to Vincent and Isabell), You are a truly an great asset to this beatifull region of france " the dordogne".. we'll see again in June

My wife and I spent three nights in La Roseraie and found it to be a good, comfortable hotel with large, well-kept rooms. The owner, Isabelle, greeted us in excellent English on our arrival. She knew our names and showed us to our room (carrying one of our two bags). We never saw anyone I could identify as Vincent (who is mentioned unfavorably in other reviews) but Isabelle was friendly and could not have been more helpful. She arranged tickets for us for the English-language tour of the Lascaux II cave the following day, and when I asked where the dry cleaner's was she volunteered to drop my pants off there in the morning so we would not have to get up earlier than necessary. I took her up on the offer and it saved us some trouble. The only problem we had was at dinner the first night. We ate early and service was good until desert when a large group of tourists were being served their main courses. Service broke down completely, and I had to complain to straighten the situation out. Other than that, the dinner was good (we went elsewhere other nights) and the breakfasts were even better, with a variety of fruits, breads, cheeses (have the walnut flavored cheese), ham, and boiled eggs.

I booked this stay with my best friend as a short break away together before she got married. We had been to Montignac before and it was a special treat to return and visit old haunts. When we were there before, the current Managers of the Hotel used to work in another property down the road which had subsequently closed. On arrival at the Hotel we met the wife of the Manager who acts as a receptionist. We had been travelling for quite some time and had rented a small car for our trip. She looked at us in an appauling condescending manner as if she was better than us. We checked into our room and were offered NO help with our luggage, which we had to drag up the stairs - all of this while the male Manager watched. The accommoation is quaint and typically french. No air-conditioning but in April thats fine - summertime is different! We had a lovely front view of the quaint court-yard. We decided to dine out that evening and had a lovely meal nearby. The Manager was horified that we were dining out and made us feel SO guilty about it. He also made a numerous rude comments about the Irish and alcohol - which I didnt appreciate-all this while verbally abusing his staff in french (which he didnt think we understood as they insisted in speaking english to us all the time). Breakfast each morning was minimal - nothing too extravagant. We dined in the Hotel on the second night and in hindsight, we wished we hadnt. The standard and cost of meals outside of the Hotel is much better. Overall I would recommend this Hotel for the location and quaint French accommodation and stule if you DONT HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH THE MANAGEMENT COUPLE THERE. The housekeeping maid was just lovely - Genine was her name and we also met the chef, Baebar who was a real gentleman.

Went to this hotel in a family group of all professional adults, ranging from late 20s to late 50s, sharing two rooms for 2 nights this summer. We had really looked forward to our stay having seen fantastic reviews of the place and heard great things about the owners.

On arrival, we thought the lady owner, was just a snotty receptionist as she was terribly patronising to us, especially to one of our party who speaks fluent French, albeit with an English accent, insisting on responding in English. However, the rooms were charming (although very stuffy and hot), smelt divine (lots of rose scents), and the grounds absolutely beautiful, so we were initially appeased.

However, the stay was one of the worst we have had in a hotel ever. The food was not good by the standards of the region (we stayed in 6 hotels over the course of 2 week on our tour of the Dordogne) and the limited menu is not changed - beware if you stay for more than a couple of nights - a choice of 4 first courses, 4 mains (with options for 3 truffle based courses as firsts or mains) and 4 puddings was disappointing and we were bored by it and found it difficult to find something we all wanted by the second night. Although we often had two bottles of wine with our meal, and so were not doing things on the cheap, our requests for carafes of tap water were met with great derision by the male owner of the hotel, who said if we did again, he would pour it over my 28 year old sister's head. When we mentioned a wooden part of a wooden chandelier in one of our bedrooms was hanging on by one nail, the lady owner would not believe us and then changed her mind and said she was aware of it, but it should stay on provided it was not knocked (it was below my head height) - it was heavy wood and would have really hurt someone. She also said we should hang on to our towels, as she was not going to get time to do the washing in order to change them the next day!

The male owner bullied the staff (many of which are young, helpful and pleasant stagieres) on numerous occasions in front of us when serving dinner - reprimanding them for putting the wrong cutlery down e.g. for fish, etc - and when we went to pay the bill, he had his back to us. He was shouting at the kitchen staff about something that was not right with the napkins. A waitress had to touch him on the sleeve to point out that guests were standing a metre from him and witnessing his tirade.

On paying the bill, the male owner processed it and had made mistakes e.g. missing off the taxe de sejour. Also, he tried to charge us for an extra pool drink. This does not sound much, but it would have been as, by god their pool drinks were expensive: 14 euros for a can of coke, a small bottle of water and a small white wine. The drinks are not actually served by the pool, but you have to go and get them - this adds a mockery to the prices We had stayed at some other, more upmarket and also similar levels of hotels on our tour, and this was by far the most expensive for soft and one off alcoholic drinks and with the worst service - so be wary! We actually thought there must be a mistake e.g. we had been charged for a large bottle or water rather than a small and commented on this amongst ourselves. The male owner leapt in our conversation, becoming incredibly aggressive and asked if we had been to St Tropez hotels as drinks are more expensive there. We did not really see the relevance of this and were startled by his impertinence. He then started saying that we would pay more for the rooms in places where the drinks were less expensive. His logic was flawed and he really upset the party as he raised his voice to us and really launched into another tirade (at least we saved the staff from more of his nastiness!).

We wondered, with hindsight, if we had such low drawer treatment because we did not fit their usual bill for guests of being couples on holiday. Apart from one gay couple, we were the only group there that was not simply a fairly middle aged or old couple who did not chat to each other over dinner! We did meet some other guests who were also less than impressed with the hotel - one asked me about internet access as the wireless connection was not working and the hotel even charged for connection on the computer that it provided (which was always occupied by a small girl - a child of the owners perhaps?). It seems to be usual now that hotels of even smaller size have one free computer for fair use by guests, and this other guest was not impressed with the owners way of dealing with his request.

The breakfasts were disappointing - very little fresh fruit, even at 7.30 (but you will be lucky if the very kind chambermaid serves - she is delightful).

In summary, I have written so much on this review as a warning - the hotel may well be delightful given its decoration, but perhaps only go here if you cannot afford a better hotel in the area, you are a couple and you are happy to be patronised by the owners! There are much better, better value places to stay in the area. Spend your money wisely!! This was a great, great disappointment to us and I cannot express enough how rude the owners were to us throughout our stay.
