“A Very Warm Welcome”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Have just spent a great weekend at this hotel. Ideal location for Cambridge as the bus stopped 3 mins walk from the hotel and delivered you to the city centre within 15 mins. Hotel staff were great...all greeted you with a smile whenever they passed you. Reception staff were very helpful and genuinely wanted to make sure that you had all you needed. Swimming pool was a very pleasant refuge away from the snow. Golf wasn't an option because of the weather. Bedrooms were of an average size but furnishings were modern and looked quite new. Also there was no noise at night The bathroom was fairly small but very clean with lots of hot water and fluffy towels.
Dining room was well laid out with a superb view over the Golf Course. A wide choice of hot and cold options for breakfast. If only the coffee had been up to the same standard!!!

We went with friends for a weekend. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar staff upstairs were equally pleasant. Slightly disappointed with the tiny bathrooms in our rooms and the very old plastic headed shower. We spent the afternoon in the Spa which truly looked as though it was in need of an update or just some time spent on it, i will say the pool was very warm which was nice. The hot stone massage was fantastic and the highlight but we are not sure how Sarah stays so cheerful working in a room no larger than a broom cupboard. At dinner the waiter Walter a very nice young man was professional, polite and chatty, there had been a rush on the warm salad so we had to go for something else to start. Overall i would say the staff were really the heart of the hotel and it was time parts of the hotel shone as much. We did think the drinks were very expensive but maybe it is the area. Breakfast was great.

Very enjoyable two night stay at this hotel. Very good selection of food for breakfast & dinner. We stayed on a 2 night bed & breakfast basis with dinner on one night, and therefore felt we had got a really good deal. Leisure facilities were great, the pool was lovely & warm on the 2 occasions we used it. Easy to get into Cambridge town centre on the bus, with the stop being just outside the Hotel. We would definitely use this hotel again.

The reception staff looked pleased to see us and were nice to talk to. There was always a duty manager in the lobby making sure guests were ok, which was a nice touch. There was a mix up with our key card which was tiresome (everytime we went to our room it didn't work) and they could perhaps have been better at dealing with this problem. However on the whole we enjoyed our stay, our room was comfortable and quiet and the hotel was very handy for Cambridge, it should really be listed under Cambridge hotels on Tripadvisor in my opinion.

I have organised two events at this venue now. Each time the service has been superb. The venue has everything required for both large business meetings and also a more intimate dining experience, at an affordable price. There seems to be only a small staff, but they work tirelessly to ensure everything is first class. The decor is somewhat tired in places, but having hosted hundreds of events, it's the service which counts.

We recently took my 88 year old mother-in-law here for Mother's day lunch and it was perfect. Having left it rather late to book this special lunch, we found most places fully booked and had nearly run out of ideas until we remember the Menzies at Bar Hill. Whilst we were living abroad for 5 years, we had stayed here several times as it is relativley close to family and we have had several big family get together here. On every occassion, the hotel, including the restuarant, was perfect so we were very surprised to read the awful reviews and might not have booked lunch here if we had been able to find anywhereelse but we remembered to first class food we had eaten here may times before and so we went ahead and booked and we are very glad that we did. Lunch was first class, hot, delicious food, vegetables cooked to perfection, not too hard, not too soft and the service was everything we could wish for. My mother-in-law thorougly enjoyed her meal as did we, this was a special day for a special lady. Thank you Menzies, we shall be back.

We stayed here midweek for two nights BB and evening meals on 13th & 14th February 2013. We were impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Although the food and service were excellent we would next time have an evening meal in the town as the city was so easily accessible with the bus stop just outside the hotel. A good sized swimming pool and there was the choice of a sauna and steam room. Would definitely return if we could pick up a discounted package.
