“Could be in '1001 properties with exceptional views'.”

We can only add to the 'excellent' reviews that have gone before. This cottage has the most incredible view right down the valley to Keswick and the mountains beyond which looked spectacular with a light dusting of snow on the fell tops. We had 3 nights but wished we had booked for longer as we could have spent hours just gazing out and enjoying the view and enjoying the tours of the farm on offer. There are great walks to suit all levels of fitness right from the door. We were attending an event in Keswick which was a scenic 20minute drive away for the most part on narrow country lanes. The cottage is spotlessly clean, well-equipped, compact yet comfortable enough for 4 people. Basic foodstuffs such as tea, coffee, sugar, oil, milk, eggs and seasonings are provided which together with a very generous fruit bowl and fresh flowers provide a welcoming sight on arrival. We are looking forward to going next year and staying a little longer and would have no hesitation in recommending to friends.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at High Snab Farm and have had a great time despite the weather! The Cottage is excellent in every respect including its setting. Superb views both day and night. Plenty of walks from the door step. We have been visiting the Lakes for decades and this cottage is in the top three. Enough said!

“Most stunning place”
Reviewed December 7, 2015 for a stay in December 2015

I have just returned from a long weekend at the High Snab Farm and cannot stop praising the place. Absolutely beautiful inside and out, very clean and stylish, with breathtaking views. Extremely friendly and helpful owners. Already planning to return in a few months' time.

“Ride High at High Snab”

I cannot give a higher recommendation for a week’s experience of Britain’s unique Lake District than Tom and Caroline Lorains’ National Trust farm “High Snab” near Keswick.

Two grandparents traveling around the length and breadth of the UK in 6 weeks with two parents and two babies - one 20 months and one 4 months old - was in itself a challenge but despite all the hurdles “High Snab” came out top of the list of all the accommodation we experienced.

If you have never been to “High Snab”, as the grandparents had 4 years previously on our own, the first challenge for you will be to find the place. I would strongly recommend you print a blown up section of a Google map from Braithwaite to destination and carefully follow the instructions on the HS web page. The GPS may get a little confused. We had a visitor who took over an hour to find us during our stay. The road also gets very narrow as you approach the farm and at time of writing there are no signs saying “High Snab”. But once you make it to Newland’s Church, you are almost there. And the rewards will be well worth the effort.

Tom and Caroline keep the accommodation spick and span and have provided you with everything you need and nothing you do not need but don’t forget to stock up when you pass Keswick as there is no corner shop. But there is a hen house in the field nearby which will provide you with fresh eggs.

We found Tom an absolute perfect host who would easily fit the bill of Thomas Hardy’s Gabriel Oak in "Far from the Madding Crowd" – a salt of the earth, reliable sheep farmer, genuinely sympathetic to your needs without being in any way intrusive.

In my distraction in taking one of the grandchildren in our car on departure, I left quite a load of clothes hanging in the bedroom wardrobe which pinged in my brain 2 hours up the freeway on the way to Scotland. Never fear, the reassuring voice of “Gabriel Oak” on the other end of the mobile phone would post them on to our next destination – no trouble at all, don’t worry about a thing.

Yes, a memorable stay with breathtaking scenery all around you. The parents were able to do the “Haystacks”and “Catbells” walks and the grandparents some less demanding ones around the lake in Keswick. We all had great pub meals at Tom’s recommended “Coledale” in Braithwaite and reputably the best pub in the Lake District the “Kirkstile Inn” at Loweswater.

A unanimous top of the list accommodation for our trip to the UK from all of us. Thank you for a wonderful stay Tom and Caroline and best wishes to you and your lovely daughter Harriet for all your future endeavours.

“Perfect for a Lakeland holiday”

Without any doubt this was the best cottage we have stayed in over years of visiting the Lakes. Sitting in the beautiful Newlands Valley with fabulous walks right from the door and views to die for. Spotlessly clean and very well equiped the owners, Tom and Caroline, take a genuine interest in you having the perfect holiday and also listening to ideas of to how they could make your stay even better. Unlike many cottages which seem to be equipped with others cast off furniture and equipment this one was faultless, the oven looked unused.
A very warm welcome and even a week of perfect blue sky and sunshine.

“One of the best views from a holiday let we've had”
Reviewed July 12, 2015 for a stay in July 2015

A well proportioned holiday let in a fantastic location.

We were greeted with a warm welcome, bottle of wine, flowers and milk to a cosy cottages. Big enough for 4 adults (and a baby) but would may be suit a couple with two children better. Good facilities. Collecting your eggs in the morning was a really nice touch as was the outdoor space - with a garden, bbq and childrens play area.

We have stayed at many holiday cottages over the years and this cottage is a very good example of how to get a holiday cottage right. Cosy but not over fussy. The owners where very friendly but not intrusive and gave a very warm welcome and had a lovely balance of professional and friendliness. The wifi was good enough to check emails and general browsing but a little slow - which is to be expected in such a remote location - besides you don't go to one of the most beautiful parts of the world to go onto the internet at every second.

We really didnt have any complaints, with ample facilities and wonderful walks from the door we saw no reason or need to drive for hours to get anywhere else.

You will need to come by car or be relatively fit. My parents are fit old people and managed to walk a lot but found the hills up to the house a challenge. The closest pub/cafe is about 1 mile in Little town but I think it closes at 5pm (in the summer) and buttermere offers the closest choice of pubs, food, cafes etc... There are other pubs a little closer in portinscale, grange etc...

The closest "well known hill" is Cats bells and is easily walkable out of the front door.

Thanks for a lovely holiday and memories....would come again if I wanted to return to the area. We do tend to try different areas for each holiday though

“A warm and cosy New Year”
Reviewed January 20, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

I great cottage in a great location. High Snab was clean, warm and very cosy (storage heaters and wood burner in living room). Also very elegantly decorated for Christmas. Fresh eggs for collection each morning. Good parking. WIFI access good. Phone reception limited to front of cottage. Lots of walks straight from the door. Non-intrusive hosts.
