“A unique and relaxing home from home.”
Reviewed March 16, 2014 via mobile

We have just returned from Kate's Farm this evening, and are already trying to find an excuse to go back.

We visited Devon, on this occasion, to go to River Cottage HQ, and Kate's Farm is conveniently very close. We chose her B&B on the strength of her other complimentary reviews on here; and we can heartily concur with all the good things that people have to say about Kate, her lovely dogs (who Kate makes as visible or invisible as you wish), her unique and welcoming home, and her exceptional cooking.

Our children and rather exuberant puppy were made completely at home, and tended to every bit as attentively and respectfully as we were. Our youngsters were blown away by the huge inglenook fireplace with it's warming and soporific fire (the perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine or beer). Add to that a secret cubby/hideaway/den tucked into the side filled with toys for them to play with, and the children simply could not believe their luck. They were then invited to collect the eggs for the following morning's breakfast and meet the cockerel - making two very happy bunnies.

Our room was also unique. The large family room with ensuite was clean and comfortable, and gave us privacy and space for all the members of the family, including the dog. Free Wi-Fi was gratefully received, too.

A good, non-greasy full English can be hard to find, but Kate's was delicious with high quality, tasty ingredients and a large choice of preserves including honey from down the lane and homemade lemon curd. (I'd love to know how Kate cooks her mushrooms - they were juicy and so savoury at the same time!)

With everything you'd expect from a characterful Devonshire farmhouse including original flagstone floors, impressive oak beams, beautiful grounds and carefully-chosen antiques, Kate opens her home to you in a relaxed, generous and down-to-earth manner.

We will definitely be returning soon. Many thanks again.

I cannot say how touched I was by your wonderful review. Thank you very much.
By the way, I cook my mushrooms in sunflower oil with plenty of ground sea salt on a high heat for approx ten minutes.
Looking forward to your next visit. All best wishes, Kate.

We stayed for a night at Kate's Farm B&B recently. It was not our first stay and most definitely will not be our last! Kate is a charming hostess and the Farmhouse is cosy and welcoming. Our room, with en suite shower room was very comfortable and quiet. Fantastic cooked breakfast complete with eggs laid by Kate's own chickens. Thanks, Kate, and we hope to stay with you again soon.

Great b&b, especially if you have dogs! Kate is very relaxed and friendly.

The breakfast is good value for money and nicely cooked. Good range of items to choose from although would be good to know if you can have cooked breakfast as well as cereal.

Good parking and easy to access. If you do need to pop out and leave your dog in the room Kate can check on them. You can even use the extensive garden to walk your dog before bed time.

There is a living room with tv, which is very sociable and most guests use and it is very relaxing as you sit by the amazing fire, but if you wanted an early night you would be able to hear the people downstairs.

If you want to stay at a b&b where you walk in, go to your room and eat breakfast and not talk then you may struggle, as this b&b is a home from home.

This B&B is perfect for families, dog owners and is a good location for walks all around and trips to the beach.

No TV in rooms so bring a book.

Thank you both for a lovely review.
There were a couple of points mentioned. Breakfast can be any variation on a theme, so grapefruit, cereal, cooked ( choice of eggs, fried, poached, scrambled ) plus toast if you have room !
Also I can put a tv in a bedroom if requested and I have free wifi for tablets etc.
The guest lounge is a great place to relax and meet other like minded guests and my wine glasses get washed quite a lot. Hope to see you again when you are down this way. Kate.

We spent a couple of nights at Kate's farmhouse and we will most definitely be returning! This is a gorgeous place bursting with character from times gone by, and provides all of the comforts one would expect. The bedroom we stayed in was very comfortable, impeccably clean, and we had an excellent good night's sleep; coffee making facilities were also in the room adding that extra touch. The lounge downstairs is also great with a very old fireplace that defies description! Then there's breakfast - simply scrummy! We had a full English which was superb and fresh, and included eggs that were freshly laid by Kate's lovely flock of hens! Kate is a fab hostess and makes you feel at home from the moment you walk through her door. She is a friendly and down-to-earth woman who is incredibly accommodating and flexible, and she attentively anticipates your needs. She truly made our stay very special and comfortable. Thank you Kate. We wish you a very Happy Christmas and New Year! K & G xx

Thanks, Kate, for a fantastic stay at your lovely farmhouse. Very cosy lounge with roaring log fire for our own use. Bed was so comfortable! Clean throughout with pleasant decor and wonderful breakfast with choices to suit everyone. Kate bent over backwards to make our stay so enjoyable. Rupert, our Whippet, thought it was great too! Woof, woof to Maise, Fern and Mr Bob!

My partner and I have just returned from a weekend staying at Kate's Farm B&B. We cannot rate it highly enough! The room that we stayed in (large family room) was spotlessly clean, very spacious and provided everything that we needed. Breakfast was plentiful and a wide selection to choose from, cooked to perfection. In the lounge is a magnificent inglenook fireplace which is absolutely wonderful and made our trip! The real gem of this establishment though, is Kate who made us feel so welcome from start to finish. We honestly can't find any fault with Kate's Farm and will definitely be returning....soon!

Our return to Kates Farm.
We had been looking forward very much to a return visit, and it was worth the wait.
A warm welcome from Kate and the dogs, and you instantly feel at home. A roaring fire added to the homely feel.
As usual we get out and about, so it was great to get back, and settle in on the night of the big storm, nice and cosy with that roaring fire!!
Unfortunately, Kate lost three trees that night, but we all escaped unscathed.
I can say that her breakfasts are the best I've ever had, and were welcome after we'd been out watching the stormy sea in Lyme Regis.
Our Beagle Snoopy, is made welcome, and Kate really doesn't mind if he cuddles up with us on the guests sofas.
A third visit in February is on the cards, so we can't recommend Kates Farm enough!!!
See you soon!!!
