We used the service early in July 2019 for 2 people and a car. Expensive but not that much other choice and fastest way to get to Malta and back from Sicily. If you have a car, your only option from/to Sicily is Pozzallo. The Catania-Malta service you can book is the exact same service + 2 hour bus trip from Pozzallo to Catania or Catania to Pozzallo. Booking online very easy and once at the port you go to the office where you receive the embarkation ticket. Passport/ID of driver and passengers get checked by staff at embarkation. Very organised in getting the vehicles on the ferry in an orderly matter. Nice luxury vessel with great views, a "casino" (slot machines), a small shop and very reasonable prices for drinks and food. Bathrooms are continuously cleaned by staff during the trip. After the safety video a movie for all ages (different movie on return trip) plays on the screens throughout the vessel and the movie finishes about 3 minutes before you arrive. Great service and experience, once ticket bought you can use it any time, you don't lose your money if you don't make the departure/return you booked. If you are sure to make the ferry and confirm in advance you are sure to get on. I saw in some previous reviews that people got stuck for 2 days and that rental cars were not allowed. This is their own fault. If you buy your ticket on arrival you get on when there is availability. If the vessels are booked out and all show up you won't get on. As for the rental car; that must have been a condition of the guy's rental company because we had no problem at all. just 2 slightly negative notes : why does it cost more if you don't take your return within 4 days??? By now there should be wifi on the vessels.

Would be a better review but for the price ?

€128 all foot passengers on the ferry.

45+ people on the coach

One driver one guide for a total of 12 hours with no added extras included like entrance tickets or food and drink.

You do the math, bit of a racket to be fair and a very long time spent travelling.

Would have been cheaper to all fly to Rome and back for the day.

Pretty sure the four of us could have hired a taxi for the day cheaper and quicker too and seen more.

Taormina was lovely and mount etna size was difficult to get your head around, just not worth €128 each....

My wife and I travelled on the Mt Etna and Taormina all day tour and it was great experience. It was a very long day with a 4:45am pick up from our hotel and we did nt arrive back to our hotel until after midnight but it was worth it. The ferry was modern and very clean with good facilities on board. Upon arrival in Sicily, our tour bus was waiting for us. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided intriguing details throughout the tour. The tour bus was modern, clean and comfortable.
There were two main stops on the tour. Firstly 2.5 hours stop at Taormina which was an amazing place. Beautiful panoramic views and historical sites. Could have easily have spent 5-6 hours here! (TIP: due to shortage of time it is recommended to just have a quick snack for lunch rather than dine in one of Taormina's tempting restaurants).
The second major stop was at Mt Etna. This was a 2 hour stop which gave enough time to visit a couple of Etna's craters and grab a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. The scenery is amazing. (TIP: 1. It is much cooler here than the coast; bring some warm clothing with you. 2. The terrain is very dusty and slippy; bring with you sensible shoes).
Overall, the tour was a memorable experience which I would highly recommend.

When we booked this tour for my husband, the salesperson made the pick-up location and time very clear... I mean, she repeated the information several times, wrote it down, and printed out TWO maps for us. Yet on that day, time, and location, nobody came to pick him up. He waited a while... and finally decided just to go to the ferry by himself. He got there in time (as in 2 minutes before the ferry left), but they wouldn't let him on the ferry and blamed HIM for "oversleeping." Seriously?????Our money was returned, but this company is absolutely horrible.

Highly recommended, the ship was very clean and all virtu's staff was very kindly especially Leonardo, fast check-in, courteous and well-mannered. He recommended us a very good restaurant. Congrats.
