“Suburban motel with Big city hotel prices”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

Price led me to expect big things. No cigar! Tired bath room and highway motel standard room. Felt ripped with $300+ tariff. Facilities seemed ok but not what I was there for. Location/room/bathroom doesn't justify the price.

Thank you for sharing your experience, we value your feedback and appreciate you taking the time.

I am concerned that you felt ripped off and apologise sincerely for this. At the Tradewinds we do work hard to ensure our rates are kept competitive and affordable, however with Perth and Fremantle now being a very busy spot for business travellers many hotels do fill up very quickly.

With less availability you can expect to pay more here than you might elsewhere. To ensure you get the most competitive rate I very highly recommend that travellers to the area make their reservations very early to avoid any disappointment. Travelling over weekends where possible to avoid the busy work week is also another tip to avoid missing out on a room.

I do hope that you choose to visit again, and would recommend taking the time to discuss the options in room type & rate with our friendly and knowledgeable front office team to ensure that you are staying in a room which suits your individual needs.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Tradewinds Hotel soon

Room price was too expensive for quality of room. Rooms need updating. Bar and restaurant were very good, especially the bar area with its modern indoor/outdoor decor and furnishings. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I am very glad to hear that you agree that the sensational Swan River views, relaxed ambience and comfortable surrounds of the alfresco courtyard bar make it an iconic destination and a great place to catch up with friends at any time of year, day or night. I will ensure that your comments are passed on to the staff, who are always working hard to ensure your experience with us is a great one.

While it still hints of a bygone era, the charming heritage listed building has been fully modernised to cater to the needs of modern holidaymakers and business people alike. I am disappointed to hear that you did not think it was up to standard, and assure you that your comments have been taken on board.

I do hope that you will stay with us again, and I can suggest speaking with our reservations team as early as you can to ensure you have access to the most competitive prices; the sooner you book the more likely you are to grab a bargain!

I look forward to welcoming you back to the Tradwinds Hotel soon

I found the Trade Winds to be a beautiful old hotel with up to date furniture. The beds were comfortable the location is right opposite the water and walking distance to the heart of Fremantle shopping/resturants. The Hotel breakfast was fresh and inviting and you were able to take in the view of the water whilst you enjoyed your food. The Hotel has a lovely outdoor bar/resturant are which is also facing the water. Really great value for money concidering its location.

Room Tip: Ask for the water view rooms because you have a car park to look at otherwise.

I did book the accommodation from the website and having no knowledge of the layout of Fremantle. The positives of the stay was that the staff were extremely pleasant, the room was cleaned thoroughly before and during the stay, the security staff were on the ball and the breakfastbwas yummy! The hotel was a great place for dinner (drinks were pricey) - but fellow trip advisors need to be aware that it is a good 40 min walk into the hub of Fremantle... Apart from that- it's all good!

Our arrival was met with the requirement of a $200 bond despite giving them My credit Card details; noo mention of this when boooking. Room for its cost was very basic . bed was uncomfortable as a plank, shower over the bath which only had access from the end being diffcult. Microwave oven from the 1970s was only just big enough to put a small pie in.
The overall standard of the room and sub standard for a cost of $279 a night; half that cost it would have been OK.

We stayed at Tradewinds as a special treat. We had been there in our courting days almost 20 years before and had very fond memories. The receptionist appeared very helpful and told us about the facilities and about breakfast times as a full buffet breakfast was included in our rate. The room we were given had a view of a wall. It was on the 2nd floor and just outside the lift. As this was supposed to be a special occasion and our memories of our room of 20 years before was in the original old heritage building, with wonderful harbour view, we asked if we might be given something nicer. Apparently no one could remember the old building ever having rooms, it is now a conference centre, so that was not an option. The next room we were given was just above the first. Looking straight out at the wall of the lift well. But with a 90 degree twist of our necks or by dragging our chairs a few rooms further down the outside walkway we could glimpse the harbour and hopefully the setting sun. It was room 315. I will never forget. We ventured down to the Restaurant for Dinner where the music was so loud we could not hear ourselves think. So we gave it a miss and went into Fremantle to a great Indian Restaurant. We returned to our room, having missed seeing the sunset from the concrete walkway. We sat down on the couch to watch a bit of TV and have an end of day beverage, when, after a few minutes we realised the floor was vibrating. There was an awful droning noise that vibrated along both side walls and through the floor. Not knowing if this would eventually stop, we contacted the reception and asked if we were, perhaps, above the kitchen and the noise might be the exhaust fans. We were told no. So then we asked that someone come up and listen to the noise. After about 3 phone calls and nearly an hour the duty manager finally came and listened. He admitted there was a 'bit of a noise', but he had no idea what it was. So he went to investigate. Another 2 phone calls and about half hour later the receptionists told us he (the duty manager) could not find the source of the noise, but if we were 'so susceptible to noise' they could put us in a room further away! This was almost mid-night. We packed up and changed to a much quieter room! No one ever followed up. We never found out what the noise was, though we suspect it was a motor on the side of the lift shaft. But apparently we were the only people who had ever noticed it, even though it vibrated through the whole room and the wall where the couch was and the bed. To top it off, the next morning we had 15 minutes to have our buffet breakfast as the receptionist had told us it finished at 10am when in fact it finished at 9.30am weekdays and 10am on weekends. This was a Friday!!

Room Tip: Never get a room near the lifts on the Eastern side the view is of a stone wall.

I stayed here due to having a family member in hospital and I needed to be close by. I rang and booked in quite late but the receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. My room was large and very clean and the bed was comfortable. Being from the country, the traffic noise was loud to me, and early next morning a refrigerated delivery truck parked almost directly outside my room was extremely noisy.

I had ordered breakfast - it arrived during the requested time and was very enjoyable. Checkout was quick and simple.
