Chancellor Lakeside Apartments
Reviewed January 30, 2012

We stayed a week here and found the place to be very clean-- the room, the bathroom, the grounds, the pool area. Also the manager, Eve, is wonderful. She is so kind and helpful. It is like a home away from home. You can walk to cafes, a market, and the post office. The noise on the main road can be loud (due to cars, not people) so I suggest a room away from the main road, closer to the pond or Moores Crescent street. Parking is great and safe. You will love it!

Room Tip: Pick a room away from the main road.

My wife and I had a busy and demanding Xmas holidays and wanted to kick back. We found the perfect place at Chancellor Lakeside.
Ross who works part time one day weekly, called us to let us know our room was ready for an early check in. When we first arrived we were greeted by Ross who was very attentive and suggested that we plan a relocation just before New Year so as to have a better room. We also needed assistance once checked in and Ross obliged.
The next day we met Eve and husband. Both were very considerate, and assisted greatly during our stay. Eve has a great personality and it seems that nothing is too difficult for her to assist. When it came time to relocate, Eve gave us two choices of rooms, with a strong suggestion to take the one on the south west corner, which we did, since it was open widowed on both sides of the balcony. We love a quiet room and this was it (the previous room was a little noisy from the road, especially a couple of hooner types who would make a racket late at night).
The rooms are very clean and have the essential kitchen utensils. The bedroom does not have a TV but it does have a fax/scanner/printer which came in very handy since we needed to print paperwork for an upcoming overseas trip.
We enjoy taking walks and the lakes around the Chancellor are very enjoyable and scenic with a vast variety of birdlife to enjoy.
We would like to thank Eve very much for being such a gracious Manager, and look forward to seeing her again in the future.

Room Tip: Suggest you book a room on the quiet side of the building, third floor, either overlooking the lakes...

This was our second visit to The Chancellor, we so enjoy this property and its location...
We were well aware you are not near the coastal strip hotspots, but you are just minutes away by car or good bus services...
The one bedroom apartments are spacious, clean and well equiped, beds are comfortable and large, the management and staff are friendly and courteous...
There are many aspects to be enjoyed, Marketplace is adjacent with a fine array of eateries to suit all palates and budgets, a very nice local pub all within a stones throw from your front door...
Bond Uni is next door and there are pleasant lakeside walks to be enjoyed, parking is free and secure with excellent building security.
Only one complaint, small towels in the bathroom...just a personal thing
We thoroughly recommend this property, excellent value and close to Robina Town Centre...

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool...

Chancellor appartments arer made up of three buildings so first of all make sure you dont rock up to the wrong one!

The appartments were nice, modern and clean. They actually appeared bigger than what they looked like in photos. The pool was small but very nice with a really nice view of the lakes.

In close promximity to Bond Uni - but a bit of a drive to the centre of the Gold coast and beaches.

The only annoying bit is their key cards are so annoying to work!

I attended a conference at bond University and stayed at the Chancellor Lakeside due to discount rates that were offered. When checking in the staff we very friendly and accommodating. When arriving at the room I was suprised how spacious they were considering they had a fully equiped kitchen and a private balcony. The only downside of my stay was the fact the beds weren't very comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to people if they are attending events at Bond Uni as it's only a 10 or so minute walk. It's also in a great location with shops and cafes just a minute away.

Three of us stayed in a 2 BR apartment for three days while visiting Bond Uni. We picked up a value for money deal on Wotif. Overall, we would go back but not without looking first for what else was available at the time. Beds are the big let down.

Positives:
- Complex is near new, well maintained and of good design for travellers. That is, you can find it easily, car parking is good, access to rooms is straightforward and shops, cafes are only metres away. Bond Uni is an easy 10-15 min walk or 5 min cycle ride away

- The apartment was clean, modern, spacious and styled a la Freedom furniture.

- Staff are helpful and friendly and made sure we were given another summer weight doona for each bed as we froze the first night with what was provided.

- Balconies are generous and private (no glass fronts - architects take note!!)

- good size functional kitchen properly kitted out.

The annoying bits:
- The accommodation business model for the Varsity area seems to be mostly investment driven with separate owners who buy units and place them under the control of a resident manager. The area is swamped with new unit complexes and margins must be tight. This result is the niceties you would expect in an apartment of this quality are missing. No tissues, minimal toiletries (not even a shower cap), no clock, only one sachet of dishwashing powder for a multiple night stay....you get the picture.

- Mattresses are hard with no cushion top, the hard wire sides cut into you when you sit on the side of the bed and, the killer, a Great Wall of China lump down the middle because the King bed (as advertised) is in effect two twins zipped together with a massive industrial zip.

Highlights:
- Make sure you have a meal at the Lake Cafe down the street - excellent quality, generous servings and did gluten free. Wine by the glass is not measured out by the thimble like some places.

Chancellor Lakeside was a great apartment to stay in. It was lovely and clean and very spacious. These are privately owned apartments with attention to detail. It felt like you were living in a upmarket home (that's the sort of feel it has) with a fantastic pool and great staff manning the front desk. Awesome complex, just a little disappointing where it is. If you've ever played the playstation game 'Silent Hill' you'll know what I mean. Varisty Lakes is I understand a Uni town but don't be surprised if you see nobody in the town and tumbleweed rolling around! If you want a relaxing quiet holiday then this is the place to stay!
