Everything written about Ysyhia in the other reviews is totally accurate and if anything the reality of this place is even better than you might anticipate as a result. It really is the perfect Greek retreat and has certainly set a high bar for us. If you want to really get away from it all and relax completely then this place is hard to beat. Just sitting on the shaded patio looking out over the Aegean is one of the most restful and pleasant experiences imaginable and the island of Skopelos is such a beautiful place that it’s hard to imagine wanting to be anywhere else. We don’t often think that we’ll go back to the exact same place again for a future holiday but this could be a rare exception. We are always a bit dubious about some of the things written about holiday lets on sites like this but there is nothing to worry about on this score. All the information provided is completely accurate and none of the photos are misleading in any way. As I already mentioned, if anything, the reality exceeds the expectations. Matt was a superb host and in addition to all his help prior to our arrival (answering some of my slightly odd questions, car hire, etc.) he was extremely helpful during our stay (although, as pointed out by others, very discrete and careful not to intrude unnecessarily) and a pleasure to get to know a little. We’d like to thank him again for a wonderful holiday and wish him all the best for the future.
Well, we just spent 3 more weeks in this wonderful little cottage in front of the sea and as usual, would have loved to stay longer & are already plotting our return! Everything was just as great as we remembered, with all the thought that has been put into providing all you require for a perfect holiday rental, be it all needed equipment in the cottage to the star of the show, the fantastic pool for two with its uninterrupted view over the Aegean Sea. It would be difficult to come away from this idyllic spot without feeling chilled - watching the sailboats and ferries come & go during a lazy afternoon in the sun has a profound soporific effect, especially after a delicious fish barbeque with a glass or two of good Greek white wine! Matt, the hospitable & friendly owner, whom we consider a friend after four visits to Ysyhia (a total of 10 weeks), is a fount of interesting information about the island and knowing he is available should you ever need anything just adds the final touch to allow you to totally relax. (See my previous reviews for more details about the cottage). This is simply a fabulous place for those who appreciate peace & tranquillity in a truly beautiful location. And even though it's totally private, you can quickly drive to the charming village of Glossa or to Skopelos town in about 45 minutes (it seems like a bustling metropolis in comparison, though it is also a very picturesque small town worth exploring). There are plenty of excellent small tavernas on the stunning beaches around the island or at nearby Loutraki (for instance, don't miss Flisvos and Aramis) and amongst a few other good places to eat in Glossa, there is the more formal Agnanti with its excellent cuisine & beautiful views). You can easily pick up the famed Skopelos cheese pies in the bakeries and there is an excellent small supermarket and butcher in Glossa. So, there is no shortage of places to eat memorable meals & enjoy freshly-caught fish and seafood or traditional Greek salads and specialties like moussaka. We give Ysyhia Cottage (and its surroundings) the highest of recommendations and our only proviso is that you don't book our spot!
We are back from 10 amazing days spent at this tranquil and beautiful retreat. The exterior gardens, shaded patio and pool were a joy, well done and well maintained and perfect for a couple to get away from it all.
The location is very remote and therefore you are far from any bustle although only a 10 mins drive to Glossa for provisions, and restaurants. The sea breezes kept the temperatures to a very pleasant level and while there is A/C in the bedroom, fly screens throughout allows for a comfortable nights sleep.
Matt was an excellent host, collecting us off the ferry, arranging and dropping us to the car hire. He also gave us good advice on things to do and places to go or eat.
This is a rural and remote spot (which makes it such a lovely location), so there is plenty of natural wildlife around, which might not be to everyone’s liking if you’re not into bats flying around at dusk, but they are beautiful to watch with a sun down in hand sitting in the pool! We absolutely loved it and there is enough on the island for interest without the very tourist areas of other islands.
We'd recommend to stay here for sure!
My husband and I stayed at Ysyhia cottage for two weeks. We had such a lovely peaceful time. The cottage is very well equipped and has a great outside space with breathtaking views across the sea.
We enjoyed the many walks and wildlife that the island has to offer. The cottage is very secluded in a countryside location however the lovely village of Glossa is only a 30 minute walk away
Matt was an excellent host. He was friendly and informative but not intrusive.
This cottage was superb in every respect for us. We loved the beautiful, quiet, serene location overlooking the sea which was so relaxing. The cottage was decorated and finished to a very high standard and had everything that we wanted. The outside pool and eating area was fantastic, we spent hours watching the boats go by.
We loved it.
If you are reading this, I guess you are thinking of visiting Skopelos and staying at Ysyhia, take my advice- book it right now!! I promise you won't be disappointed!
We have just returned from a wonderful week at Ysyhia and can vouch that all the reviews I read before going are completely true and accurate!
The views from the cottage are even better in reality than the photos and the cottage really does have everything you may need for your holiday. The island has plenty to see and do if you wish, however the tranquillity of Ysyhia lulled us back most afternoons just to enjoy the total relaxation.
The "cherries" on the cake really are Matt and Sarah, again everything you read about them is true! Lovely people who are so helpful before and during your stay, but also ensuring you have total privacy at the cottage.
I can honestly say I don't think we will surpass this week, and have now found our perfect Greek retreat, we will definitely be back and look forward to spending more time at Ysyhia and with Matt and Sarah and hearing of their adventures!
So, do read all the reviews and make your own minds up, but booking our week really was a great decision.
Ps- pack light! We managed on a small rucksack each and still took too much!
This was our third visit to our favourite cottage in this wonderful island destination and since we have already booked our fourth visit for next year, no doubt that says it all! (see my previous review) We love this place! The cottage, which is very carefully maintained & spotlessly clean, is just perfect for two, with its beautiful setting & view of the sea, its total privacy, the loving & thoughtful attention to aesthetics & detail inside which ensures you have everything you need & that being inside is also a pleasure, the lovely little pool which is just right for cooling off while watching the boats go by.... We often buy wonderfully fresh fish or excellent meat to barbeque if we want a day "in", though there are many excellent tavernas in picturesque places not far off. One of the things we like best is that if you simply want to "chill" and do nothing but relax in the sun (or pool!) & read a book, this is the ideal location for it, but if you want to explore, there are plenty of interesting & beautiful places to see. Matt & Sarah, the charming owners who live on the property, get the balance exactly right between always being available to help if needed (a phonecall away on the mobile they kindly provide), and ensuring you have complete privacy. They couldn't be more friendly & helpful and have a depth of knowledge about the island which they are always happy to share. We have spent 8 weeks there all in all & can't think of a better place for a holiday! It's just as gorgeous as it looks in the photos!
