Description: This gastronomic journey began in 1953 in the picturesque amphitheatrical village of Glossa, on Skopelos. That year, grandmother Aglaia Stamataki and her son Nikos (grandfather of the present owner) set up a tavern that they named "Gallia" (France), to appeal to the few French tourists who visited the island at that time. In 1985, the little taverna changed its name and was rebaptized "Agnanti" (meaning "view"), to reflect its beautiful aspect over the Aegean. It was around that time that Agnanti passed into the hands of the children of grandfather Nikos: Stamatis and Mahoula Stamatakis. With their wonderful, well-prepared recipes, Agnanti immediately made an impression and gained a great reputation on the island. Their son, Nikos, knew no other life when growing up, other than Agnanti. He helped out doing little chores and entered at a very young age into the world of the magical flavors his parents created. From an early age Nikos decided that he, too, wanted to devote himself to Agnanti. The dream became a reality and Nikos has now taken on the running of Agnanti. Handed from generation to generation, Nikos feels that Agnanti is a wonderful inheritance. Honoring family tradition, he has further developed Agnanti, putting his own gastronomical stamp on today's restaurant. And so it is that little tavern that opened in 1953 has today become a great modern restaurant without losing any of its atmosphere and originality. Everyone who visits Agnanti today becomes a faithful friend. And it is these friends who, with their love and patronage, continue to write Agnanti's history.

This was the best meal we had in the two weeks we were on Skopelos, the food, service and views were all superb. We sat on the Balcony overlooking the port of Loutraki and the beautiful views out to sea. We had three delicious courses and the best desserts on the island all started of with an amuse bouche, wine was very good, both Red and White. The service was excellent and the price very reasonable for what was a very enjoyable evening.
Recommend for a special but not expensive evening

“Totally delightful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

Lunch on a balcony in dappled sunlight overlooking a fabulous view, fantastic service and delicious food. perfect ! A total highlight of the holiday and it deserves to be no 1 on the Island.
In many ways this is the Greek Taverna you hoped you would find but doubted the existence of. The décor is traditional ( possibly in a way that is just bordering on becoming self consciously 'perfect') and the whole place ,while laid back and genuine in its desire to please is clearly aware of how to be commercially viable, for example the staff all wear spotless logo'd t-shirts, and it would be impossible to miss, signs lead you there from everywhere in the village. No shortage of up to date 'tweaks' either - good cappuccino, cocktails and lovely loos - a long way from the traditional tavernas we have frequented over the years - this is more good than bad, it is done very well indeed.
I would go back again tomorrow if I could , the food was fabulous especially the chicken dolmades ( and not at all overpriced for the quality) Glossa is a lovely unspoilt village

“Beautiful views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014 via mobile

We ate here on a dull June lunchtime, rather late but they are open all day. Small menu by Greek standards cooked to order and very tasty. Not sure I would agree with best restaurant on island but very good never the less. The courgette fritters very good, followed by what I would describe as a up market doner kebab. Certainly different but in a interesting way. Good wine list of all Greek wines at sensible prices. Oh yes and a view to die for. You need to book as it gets busy in season. Would definitely go back again when next in Skopelos.
