Description: This gastronomic journey began in 1953 in the picturesque amphitheatrical village of Glossa, on Skopelos. That year, grandmother Aglaia Stamataki and her son Nikos (grandfather of the present owner) set up a tavern that they named "Gallia" (France), to appeal to the few French tourists who visited the island at that time. In 1985, the little taverna changed its name and was rebaptized "Agnanti" (meaning "view"), to reflect its beautiful aspect over the Aegean. It was around that time that Agnanti passed into the hands of the children of grandfather Nikos: Stamatis and Mahoula Stamatakis. With their wonderful, well-prepared recipes, Agnanti immediately made an impression and gained a great reputation on the island. Their son, Nikos, knew no other life when growing up, other than Agnanti. He helped out doing little chores and entered at a very young age into the world of the magical flavors his parents created. From an early age Nikos decided that he, too, wanted to devote himself to Agnanti. The dream became a reality and Nikos has now taken on the running of Agnanti. Handed from generation to generation, Nikos feels that Agnanti is a wonderful inheritance. Honoring family tradition, he has further developed Agnanti, putting his own gastronomical stamp on today's restaurant. And so it is that little tavern that opened in 1953 has today become a great modern restaurant without losing any of its atmosphere and originality. Everyone who visits Agnanti today becomes a faithful friend. And it is these friends who, with their love and patronage, continue to write Agnanti's history.

The view over the sea towards Skiathos was spellbinding at dusk as the sun went down. Great and attentive service provided us with excellent Greek wines and tasty Greek 'fusion' food. Good enough that we visited twice! Recommended.

“Delicious twists on Aegean cuisine”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

Agnanti excel in providing some delicious versions of some Greek and Turkish classics - for example chicken dolmades (stuffed chicken wrapped in vine leaves) with a lemon and gearnium sauce, an open lamb kebab with toasted flatbreads, with lamb, tzadziki and sundried tomato paste, or Imam baildi. Starters and desserts were also lovely, again being twists on the usual fare.

It makes a nice change to grills and the moussakas etc, which whilst tasty, can start to get a little boring after a week or so. Having eaten in three different restaurants, Agnanti and two in Skopelos town, we decided to return to Agnanti for our final two nights on Skopelos to work through the menu.

The restaurant is split into an indoor and outdoor area both of which have stunning views across to Evia. Service is excellent. Reservations are a good idea as the restaurant isn't huge and fills up quickly. If we'd have eaten a meal like this elsewhere in Europe we'd have been very happy. We wish we had a restaurant of this calibre on the other islands, including Skiathos where nothing came close.

“Modern greek cooking in charming Glossa restauant with great views.”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Apparently the "best" restaurant in Skopelos was closed for refurbishment so we tried this restaurant in the second town, Glossa which has stunning views over the Aegean. Compared with €50 for the 3 of us for 2 courses in a taverna in Skopleos, often surrounded by package tourists, the Agnanti cost €80 for 3 courses. The interior is charming and feels more like a dining room. Even in mid September it was busy with a broad spectrum of diners giving it a cosmopolitan feel. For starters we ate filo triangles containing soft goats cheese with herbs or feta in filo pastry with a Samos wine dressing The mains included chicken with a lemon scented geranium cream sauce and the kebab was open with tender pieces of lamb on a toasted pita with tadziki. Chocolate mousse or moist ground almond cake with cinnamon ice cream completed our meal. The complimentary drink was some delicate sweet Samos wine to round off the meal. If we had been served this in a good UK restaurant we would have been vey pleased; to eat it in Glossa was a real treat.

“Agnanti is Outstanding & Magical!”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

If you go to Skopelos, do not leave without dining at Agnanti. It is simply stunning. The view is like a painting. The ambience and decor are classy but still Greek. The service is faultless and as for the food, well i wish I could eat here forever. We didn't book and we wish we had as you can sit on a table for 2 on the balcony which would have been nice, but our table was still lovely and we could still see the view. We have been to Greece seven times, all different Islands, and Agnanti is the best dining experience and food in Greece. It is exactly what it advertises - Greek food with a twist. The food contains the right amount of Greek tradition, but is different and exciting. For my starter I had the herb fritters and they were one of the best things I have ever tasted, and the portions are very generous. We had Santorini wine which was delicious. Everything tased so fresh and home-made. The only thing we were sad about was that we were too full for a sweet, which also looked amazing. Without doubt the best restaurant I have ever been to and I am a true foodie !!! And the shock is that we expected it to be expensive but it was actually a fraction cheaper than some of the Tavernas in Skopelos town. Agnanti - don't change a thing because if there is such a thing as perfection this is it !
