I have reviewed the Cottage before but feel it deserves another mention. Previously i had been for dinner and at the time felt it was so good that I immediately booked again but this time for lunch.
All together there were six of us with ages from 6 to 75! The lunch offering is a small set three course menu with a choice of two dishes for each course. It was, as before, exquisitely presently. The starters were a simple choice of a celeriac and saffron soup or a chicory and apple salad, my son and I opted for the soup which was delicately garnished with celery oil, micro leaves and tiny croutons and we both mopped our bowls clean with fabulous home made bread. The salad was served in a lovely earthen ware bowl and looked delicate and light, my father commented that he didn't realize a salad could taste like that!
The main courses were a choice between John dory with crab and asparagus or ox cheek with a nettle and spelt risotto. Most opted for the fish and ate every last morsel exclaiming over the cooking of the fish. I opted for the beef which was as unctuous as I could hope for and was accompanied by a velvety risotto and zingy spring onions, i would happily eat it again! In fact I had ox cheek at Pollen Street Social three days later which just didn't quite compare.
The desserts were perhaps the the highlight of the meal the choice was banana custard tart or a coconut pannacotta with tropical fruits. I had the pannacotta which was creamy and smooth and very well balanced by a passionfruit sorbet, those that had the tart were in a custardy heaven! Taken back to childhood they were licking their plates like gluttons!
So to sum up, suburb food, wonderful friendly service and a great view! Perfect lunch destination.

Without a doubt one of my favourite resturant expierences. We had been disappointed with the level of food we had found around Keswick and wanted something special for our last night and this place delivered.

The resturant was about a 15 mins taxi from the opposite side of the lake. You are welcomed in to a little lounge type area by very freindly staff and had a drink and some snacks. They explain the menu there which is a nice touch and relaxing way to start the meal.

We eat out alot and often try to visit high end places and can honestly say that this rivals any of them in terms of service and food quality. The food is "fine dining" but classic enough that you would easily enjoy if you are something of a fussy eater. The staff were attentive but gave you enough time to not make you feel pressured. We had a late sitting so it was too dark to see the view but we were told is great. Also, for this level of resturant, the price is a good deal lower than you would expect to pay in London.

An all round great experience and perfect way to say goodbye to the lakes.

From first contact by phone to a final hand shake on leaving our experience was nothing short of amazing. Friendliness from owners Kath, Liam and their small team leaves so called bigger and better places trailing in the wake!! On arrival we were greeted with a friendly smile, chit chat and a surprise tea/coffee & home made cake, nothing was too much trouble. The 17th century building has been tastefully refurbished with ensuite rooms and a large conservatory, where breakfast/dinner is served, over looking the landscape down into the valley. The gardens are teaming with bird life. Food quality is up there with the best and the taster five course dinner menu to die for. This is a place to chill out for the week end, or longer!! Local B&B's recommend the restaurant to their own guests!! We will most certainly be back in the future.

What a place to eat! The views from the restaurant (book in advance when busy and ask for a window seat) are stunning, even in the misty rain the view is so atmospheric and really adds another dimension to eating the well crafted and tasty food. You wont leave full, so avoid if you want pub grub, but you will have been entertained and wowed by the inventiveness of the dishes and the beautiful surroundings – excellent services too!
