“Fine...nothing more”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

An odd atmosphere but half decent pub grub. Certainly not anything special and a lot of pubs now know better than to serve nasty frozen chips. Not this one! We found the barman to be a little unfriendly. We arrived and asked if they were serving food. He replied 'not until 5 and there's no chance I'll be putting menus out or taking orders before that' okaaaaay! Fine after a day's walking but wouldn't return

“Not an enjoyable stay”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Not an enjoyable stay made worse by the poor quality of the evening food and strange B&B arrangements. The room we stayed in was awful to say the least with shocking colours decorating the wall. All the food and drink was found be rather expensive considering the poor quality.

“Always a nice place”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Having had many Peronis in this place following days on the fells it often provides a nice meal and pleasant surroundings.

The food is descent as is the atmosphere and the bar staff accommodating at all times.

Based in Braithwaite this pub/hotel provides a great water holing for those camping at the nearby site.

“Bad experience”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Went into this pub for a pint after walking on local fells. The landlady objected to a small bit of wet on a stool from my friends jacket in an extremely rude manner and caused an embarrasing scene. The atmosphere was unfriendly, the beer expensive. The other customers who witnessed the scene expressed their disgust at her behaviour to us as we left.
Why would someone take on a pub in the Lake District and object to walkers coming in slightly wet !
