Nice friendly place, nice beer. food good. Service good. Had to send a steak back because it was well under cooked to how my wife had asked for it, but it came back and it was perfect.;

“The staff is your best asset in the hotel trade”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

This review is on the bar and restaurant only, but I am thinking about taking the wife up for a weekend stay here.

Four of us was using our OAP bus passes for a evening out from Keswick. Brithwaite is a short 10 minute bus ride from Keswick bus station and the bus will stop right outside the pub if asked. The buses we used (X4) allows you a 2 hour stay at this Inn/restaurant so it's very handy for a break away from the packed and maybe overrated pubs and restaurants in Keswick. Being a little sad we never go anywhere without the Good Beer Guard and it was a toss up from 2 pubs in Brithwaite. A young lady who was on the bus told us that we should give the Middle Ruddings a try. She was on a winner with her smile and bubbly manor and she also told us that she would see us right to the door. We followed her into the Inn and before we could get to the bar she had her coat off and with a wash of the hands she was stood behind the bar asking what we wanted to drink, all this with a heart melting smile.

We all enjoyed our meals at this Inn and all the staff where friendly, it was voted the best place we had visited in our 3 day stay in the lakes. So if you want a nice quite meal at a price that will not break the bank and good drinkable ale all served with a smile, then do give this Inn/Restaurant a go.

And the young lady on the bus.... she was the managers sons fiance and what a lucky chap he is.

Warm, friendly establishment serving excellent food at a reasonable price. Great selection of beers for the "real ale" fans kept in excellent condition.

“excellent food”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Although it was a Tuesday night, we were recommended to book. It was a good job we did, since the restaurant was busy. The menu was extensive, and the food was of the highest quality, with very friendly staff. Prices were very reasonable.
Probably the best meal we have had out this year.

“Splendid food and service”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

We dined here to celebrate our friend's birthday while staying in a cottage at nearby Thornthwaite. The available menu made it difficult to choose but we weren't rushed at all. All our choices were excellent and really delicious. The slow roast lamb enjoyed by myself and my husband was truly exceptional. The staff were really friendly and very good at their jobs. The atmosphere is relaxed. The bill for four was a very reasonable £122 which included 3 courses each, a decent bottle of wine, two soft drinks, two ports and two liquer coffees and two regular coffees. The food portions were very generous. It was also nice to meet the chef to have our questions about the cheese board answered. Will certainly return when in the area.
