When you first see Maple Bank you cant help but be very impressed with it. There is ample parking to the front and rear of the property and the gardens are well maintained. You are made very welcome by the owners who are more than happy to help you with any queries and advice on the local amenities and attractions.
The room was very comfortable and clean with en suite and everything that you would need to make your stay feel like home, and the view of Skiddaw from the front of the house was breathtaking. Waking up to the smell of a traditional English breakfast is just the thing with the eggs supplied by Tommy's hens. The dining room is laid out very neatly with a good amount of space between the tables. There is a good choice of cerels, yogurts and juice as well as a freshly made fruit salad, everything to set you up for a good day of climbing the mountains of which Tommy and Rhona and Amy took time out to climb with me. There are also two large comfortable sofas set in the bay window of the Dinning room where you can sit and enjoy the views that surround the house, and with a glass of wine in the evening they are even better.
It is a short and lovely walk into the viiage of Braithwaite where there are cosy pubs all serving local Jennings ales and excellent food, sourced from local suppliers and if you are feeling energetic a walk up to winlatter where you can get a good sandwich and drink and watch the ospreys on their nests.
Maple banks is ideally situated for some very good walks and climbs and is a five minute drive from the town of Keswick where there is a good selection of shops and a well supplied information centre.
This is my second stay at Maple Banks and I look forward to going back next year, and another good factor for dog lovers is that they are welcome too.
Many Many thanks to Tommy and Rhona for an excellant break.
