Maple Bank is the perfect location for a short break or a longer holiday. I say that because I have stayed at Maple Bank at least once a year for over 30 years! Rhona and Tommy have owned this beautiful Guest House for about 6 years and when I go back it's like meeting up with old friends! Nothing is too much trouble for Rhona and Tommy, who always have a cheery word and serve a fantastic breakfast to set you up for a day's walking. The rooms and en-suites are decorated to a high standard and are spotlessly clean and have everything you want. The front rooms have stunning views across the Derwent valley to Skiddaw. It is in an ideal situation for some wonderful walks in the northern Lakes and for exploring further afield. I can't recommend Maple Bank highly enough! I'll be back again in about a month!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have stunning views. Rooms at the back are quieter.

Thank you very much Nigel for writing a brilliant review for us.
Is it really 30 years?
I have to let others who maybe reading this know, Nigel is still and very young handsome man who was first introduced to the Lake District and Maple Bank by his parents all those years ago!!!
Clearly hooked.....hears to the next 30 years Nigel!
Looking forward to seeing you next month Rhona and Tommy x

We visited the Maple bank in August 2012 on a trip to Cockermouth to visit our daughter and children. Tommy was very helpful in showing us our room (a little on the small side, but not a huge problem). Although the guest house was just off the main road, there wasn't a great deal of noise with the windows closed; the bed was comfortable and some lovely bathroom goodies were provided, along with soft towels fresh off the towel warmer.

breakfast the next morning was good, I did ask for a poached egg and this couldn't be done which confused me somewhat.

All in all though, I would stay at this lovely property again - Tommy was lovely and very chatty. I wish him and Rhona all the best in the future and thanks for the lovely conversation we all had about Marks passion (motorbikes).

Thank you for the lovely review , we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us at Maple Bank.
We are so sorry that you didn't get what you asked for at breakfast, by way of poached eggs, as this is what we offer every day?.......Please accept our sincere apologies. If you should return in the future, Tommy and I would be delighted to offer you the most lovely poached eggs from Tommy's girl's (Tommy's other passion..... his hens in the garden).

Apologies once again Rhona and Tommy.

We booked this as a short break away from our hectic life - foster carers and shared lives carers. The house was beautifully clean and our room was very comfortable. The views from the front of the house were stunning. The breakfast was lovely - Rhona and Tommy were not only very hospitable but they also assured us our little westie dog was also welcome. They even recommended the pubs to go to that were dog friendly! (Cant remember the name of the pub now where we had our evening meal, but it did turn into a bit of a crufts type eaterie!! We would love to return the next time we have a short break, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as a lovely place to stay.

Once again,a fantastic welcome from Rhona and Tommy. Room was warm with excellent facilities including tea/coffee making facilities that put some expensive hotels to shame! Breakfasts were just what was needed before a long walk. Views of Skiddaw are unrestricted and awsome! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Front rooms overlook Skiddaw

The BB is run by a wonderful and friendly couple . They show a genuine interest in their guests and recommends places of interest - tourist sights and food places. My children still remembers the food they had at the restaurants that they recommended .
If you are like us who prefer quiet and fresh clean enviroment away from bustle of the city life this is the place. You get a scenic view of the landscape from breakfast room and a soothing garden at the back.
Would love to stay there again and would certainly recommend to friends.
