“Great pub with good food at great prices”
Reviewed April 29, 2014 via mobile

We ate here several times during a trip to Yorkshire. The food was delicious pub grub at a great price, with very friendly service. There's a good range of beers and this is the kind of family pub you can go to for a quick drink or a night out with friends. Every night we were there it was buzzing. I'd definitely go back if I were I the area.

Nice traditional country pub with a friendly welcome from the bar staff. Food was average pub food, nothing much to write home about. They serve nice chips but the chef's take on Stilton sauce and pepper sauce left a lot to be desired.

First ate there last year and have been back about five times so far. Why? The food is decent proper food with good vegetarian and fish options and you don't need a second mortgage to eat here. It's a pleasant and cosy pub, unpretentious but charming nonetheless. Vegetables are included in the price of mains which is a bonus as some places charge extra.

Would recommend to anyone.

We were staying local and wanted to try The Fleece having passed it many times but having never been in. A good choice of starters and mains from the menu with specials and desserts from the blackboards. The homemade steak and mushroom pie and sausage and mash were excellent with veg bought out separately. Good range of wines accompanied with guest ales. Well recommended. Look up on the way out to the carpark and admire the penny farthing hanging from the ceiling!

Called in at lunchtime during the week. Very presentable bar area serving CAMRA Guest Ales; I had Wold Top (an East Yorkshire brewery near Driffield) which, at £3 per pint, I thought very reasonable. Enjoyed sitting out in the Beer Garden which is divided into 2 parts by a high brick wall. The rear half is grassed and has a Wendy House and other items for kids to play on in a safe area, whilst the front area is paved and has picnic tables for those without kids. I noticed on their Evening Specials menu that they had an interesting range of fare including Rabbit Pie - haven't had that in years!! Afterwards, I strolled across the Green to the Church - one of the "Sykes" churches with an interesting interior.

We stopped off without a booking and were made so welcome even though they were busy. Excellent value for money and would return without any hesitation. Lovely staff, atmosphere and food. Although it was a Tuesday night they were very busy and we had an enjoyable inpromptu evening.

We were cycling on the Way of the Roses and arrived to a warm welcome. The pub also had a place to store the bikers safely and our bikes were put away by the owners father. The Fleece Inn was comfortable and the food was good. We had a good evening meal in the pub and it had a good atmosphere with several locals eating which is also a good sign. In the morning we were served with a hearty breakfast and both the owners and their staff were helpful and friendly. Whilst it is a little bit away from the exact route, it was worth the detour.

Room Tip: We had room 1 and it was fine
