We stayed here one night when the Visby-Oskarshamn ferry could not sail because of a bad storm. This hotel has a special rate for people stuck when there are ferry problems. The room was cheap in price by Swedish standards, small in size by American standards but typical of Scandinavia, very clean, everything worked, the hot and cold breakfast buffet was varied and ample, staff was very helpful and friendly, location excellent for getting the ferry (it´s right at the harbor) and for sightseeing in the beautiful medieval walled city of Visby. Ask for a harbor/sea view.

Room Tip: The hotel is actually 5 or 6 buildings on the cliffside facing the harbor but not all rooms have a g...

During the summertime the prices for the hotels in Visby are higher than usual, and this hotel is consider to be one of the cheaper hotel in the town. Visby hamnhotell is located opposite the ferry terminal and it can be a little bit noisy by night, since the walls are so thin and the ferries are arriving/departing late hours. You can walk in to the city within 7 - 10 minutes. The room that we stayed in was spartan furnishings. It was a "economic room" - a small room with two single beds (you can get one large bed if you ask for it), a writing desk and chair and a TV. The bathroom was cleaned, but a little tired and the hot water in the shower was limited. Overall the hotel has lower standard than an average Scandinavian hotel, even though the price in the summer does not reflect it. The breakfast was served in another building and was quite ordinary.

Located ~200 meters from the ferry terminal. About 15-20 minutes walk from the inner city area. Not much to see nearby unless the sunset behind the sea :) A quiet place. Most of people staying here are older or families with kids.
Breakfast is included into the price, is reach an good enough.
They have a free car parking, so you can rent a car or came with your own. Ask for a parking receipt which you should place under the windshield. You should definitely take a car there since it's plenty places to see on the Gotland
Economy rooms are quite modest especially taking into account the price.
Internet is free, but a dial-up kin of. Ask for the login/password at reception

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is located next to the ferry terminal but it is 25 minutes by walk from Visby historical center. The reception was good and efficient. We took a superior room in the modern building which was simple (ikea type of furniture, shower in the corner of the bathroom) small but very new and clean. The superior rooms have a terrace but the view is either: the parking lot, the vIew of the facing room or the ferry terminal. Breakfast was good (mostly local products) and included in the price. Compared with what we payed in the center of Stockholm this hotel
was overpriced given that it is in
the outskirts of Visby.

Basic place near the town of Visby. The standard rooms are clean and relatively spacy, but nothing more.
The place lacks character and offers just the basic practicality.

Room Tip: Beware of the charge currency when you make an internet reservation.

My husband and I stayed at Visby Hamnhotellet for 3 nights in the end of July 2011. We accept that the price level of hotels in Visby during the summer is very high, however we were still shocked that 140 Euro's per night did not give us a better room than a small, youth hostel-like room with a shower that you could use only for 10 minutes at a time (as the amount of warm water was regulated!!!!!!!!!). We stayed in the old part of hamnhotellet, C-building if I remember correctly.
The room had only one small window, which was towards the parking lot, were people walked past. The dark curtains could not be pulled apart - probably because then people passing could see directly into the room. The telly in the room was tiny, you had to peer to be able to read any text shown in the programs.
Everything was not all together terrible - the hotel location was good, the rooms were clean, we had free WLAN and the breakfast quite ok.
I read the reviews on tripadviser before booking the hotel and I have to say I feel cheated. I was not aware of that the standard of the rooms in this hotel varied this greatly. So, if you feel like booking a room in this hotel, make sure you do not get a room in the old part of the hotel, i.e. the budget side. Cos if those rooms are the only ones left and you are told that these will cost you 140 Euros, then you better search for youth hostel or sleep on a bench.
According to the ad our room had a "furnished outdoor area". That sounded very nice- however the truth was that outside the room there were some old garden furnitures, placed directly on the concrete path, were people walked past. Only a drunk person could possibly enjoy sitting there. The ad did not mention at all the fact that you only had warm water for 10 minutes in the shower. There was however a friendly note in the shower explaining how to take a shower without using too much water (you can turn off the water whilst shampooing your hair etc....). My god, that did not put me into a vacation mode.
Must say that this is the second worst hotel experience I have had ever. In the worst hotel I have ever stayed the room however only costed us 50 Euros/night (which might explain why the hotel in that case was shabby).

Visby Hamnhotell is conveniently located across the street from the ferry terminal. We were 3 persons and we had a spacious room, with one separate bedroom & one fold-out couch in the living room. Bathroom is fairly big, but in true Scandinavian fashion lacks a partitioned shower. Kettle provided in the room, free internet (for 8 hours), possibility to rent bikes on site, which was also very convenient. Within walking distance of the tourist information office, two ice cream parlors, and the beginning of the beach area. Staff was very kind and helpful. Good breakfast included.

My only complaint is the cleanliness of the room. Swedish standards being so high, I was quite surprised that the sheets on the bed and one of the towels were visibly stained. I was also surprised how late our room was made-up; I returned after 3 pm and it still had not been cleaned for the day.

Overall, a good experience!
