“Not a motor home park!”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

Comfortably far from the main highway and set high on a hill to the East of the Tamar Valley the resort park now sits amongst tracts of middle class housing. That sounds like a damning start but the setting is such that it easily accommodates mixed use of the land. The park itself is a mix of accommodation - chalets and bungalows surround a main hotel building. To the south lie a golf course and small lakes where chalets nestle along the lake side. Great thing is - it's not a shared use site with caravans and motor homes so the whole place has a neat and tidy appearance so often missing in so-called 'resorts'.
We stayed in a wooden bungalow - small verandah, spacious living room, two bedrooms, full kitchen area off the living room and a good full bathroom too. Nicely designed but showing signs of wear and tear. The staff are smiling and helpful and housekeeping of the essentials was very good in the main. However detail didn't stretch far into the area of dusting and polishing of edges and ledges. The bungalow was not air-conditioned and we had to make full use of the supplied fan to cool it after a day closed up in this autumn's warmer-than-average spell. Incidentally, we got all of this in March 2013 for just $A109 a night so it's something of a bargain buy.
You don't have to use the on-site restaurants and bars - if you are self catering there is a large well-stocked Woolworth supermarket a couple or three kilometres away.
On a clear night it's worth the walk to a small rotunda atop a hill in the grounds. The night sky is wonderful and relatively unspoilt by light pollution. As a base for touring the north east of Tasmania and avoiding Launceston's traffic you'll not find better at the the price.

Room Tip: Just a possibility - not tested - that the chalets by the lake may be mossie central!

Stayed only one night so i am not sure i have had the 'full experience'. We were part of a tour group so the hotel was booked by the travel agent. The location is rather isolated; if i was on my own, i may not choose this place as it was kind of isolated.

Our room was on the second floor. There was no elevator, so it may be difficult for those with mobility problems our if you have heavy luggage.

The room itself is very lovely and spacious. there was a lovely balcony too. The best thing about this resort is the rooms.

The breakfast was ok. I found it strange that for a 4star resort, i had to get the cutlery from the cashier, the cutlery wasn't laid out on the table - made me felt like i was in a hostel or school canteen. I was also surprised that the coffee was not brewed in a pot. We had to make our own coffee with the sachets of instant coffee granules and hot water.. These may sound trivial, but i think they spoilt the resort's four star image.

The resort has a nice pond, and apparently also has a lotof activities for guests. However as i was with a tour group we had to follow the schedule and didn't have time to explore the place fully.

I am a member of the spa/gym and swimming pool. Great reception staff, and the maintenance man looking after the spa is very friendly and efficient.
The gym equipment is very good, the swimming pool is smallish but more than adequate on quiet days. The Sauna controls really needs to be sorted with a new function box! The Plants could be thrown out as they definitely lack TLC... the Administrative office abutting the pool's glass is taped up in areas giving a very poor impression and there are no lockers for our belongings.
Toilet and shower facilities very tired looking.. such a shame because this establishment has all the makings of a great place but it desperately requires an overhaul.

This place is good for the money but leaves you chained to eating in their restaurant or driving/ getting a taxi elsewhere (and everywhere apart from KFC in the locale shuts at 8pm). Give it a bash if you're a young family maybe or an elderly couple but if not just get a place in launceston. On the other hand you are in the wine region with some great wineries a short drive away and the rooms are of very good quality at this price with some lovely facilities on site. Just not our cup of tea!

Room Tip: Go for a suite, it's not much more!

We stayed here for just one night and had a room in the hotel. It was very pleasant and nicely furnished. The room was spacious and we had a bath....hurrah. Our room overlooked the courtyard and we were very happy with our accommodation. The apartment was fresh and clean but the patio windows were not. There were fingermarks all over and they obviously had not been cleaned. Outside on the patio the table was dirty and still had coffee stains on it. Not just a little drip. I think perhaps housekeeping had slipped up here. It was not what I expected. A mistake I imagine. We ate in the restaurant and it was ok. The grounds were interesting and well worth a visit. I thought it would be an ideal place for a family. The shopping village was not quite as I imagined as it consisted of about six shops. Very pleasant however. The staff were all excellent, helpful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our swim in the pool and we had a very pleasant time.

Location was beautiful, resort was beautiful, rooms big enough and plenty of activities but.... One thing that is worth mentioning is the little sign above the kitchen sink which states that guests have to clean and put away their own dishes on check out otherwise they will be charged $35.00!! We found this gross to think that the last people that stayed in this room possibly just gave the dishes a rinse and chucked them back in the draws! We had to boil the jug and wash each glass before having a drink just so we knew they were clean. We dont mind having to do our own dishes before leaving but it shouldnt be compulsory and there definitley should not be a price to pay if you dont, serioulsy thats what housekeepers are for! Place really needs an upgrade as well, new fridges and fresh milk in rooms would make a difference

Only 20 minutes drive from Launceston, this is a beautiful hotel, staff are nice and helpful, room is big, food are great. I only stayed there for 1 night, we should stay longer to enjoy the great facilities on site. Cherries farm and vineyard are nearby.
