“Disappointing”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Having heard about this restaurant and its celeb ownership I was underweldmed by the event.Nice spot but thats where it ended, service was middle of the road as was the food. And having such a small toilet for a place this size is questionable , hand dryer that didnt and no paper towel alternative. A big let down

“The Boat House is really worth a visit”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

We went there for Xmas lunch. There were three things to report.

i) The food is of a high standard.
ii) The service is attentive and professional. This is important in Australia where many restaurants cut costs by employing kids. We had some special conditions, which the staff managed with cheerfulness and aplomb.
iii) We found our visit impressive.

After the meal the Maribyrnong River provides a very pleasant walk to stroll and burn off some of those calories.

Recommend? Oh yes! We propose to go back for Xmas Dinner next year!

“Poor experience ”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

The website invites you to a beautiful place by the river. The menu is limited but has you excited due to the owners' high profile. The prices also elevate your expectations but it turns out it's just elevated prices!

The restaurant set up is only suitable for hot days, anything other than that you're going to freeze or at a minimum be blown away by the gusts of wind going through the front section of the venue.

The food; Entree of cauliflower & cheese croquettes ($13) and children meals were lovely. The mains, fish & chips ($23) sent back due to being under cooked and the chefs response was "nothing wrong with it" .. sirloin ($35) was cooked to order but served nearly cold, the same as the sauces that came with it. We didn't hang around for dessert.

The service; very poor and clearly inexperienced. Clearing plates before everyone has finished their meals is a massive no no in my book! None of the waitresses had a clue about what stage of the meal we were up and at one point our table was cleared and we were asked if we'd like coffee & dessert when we hadn't even eaten mains at that point.

All in all, this was a disappointing experience and we were so excited to have our family lunch here. I'd suggest the prices be matched with service and the casual dining/wait staff.

“great view slow service expensive food - but trying”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Have gone here reluctantly several times over the years as it is convenient for friends. Have NO idea how Garry Meaghen gets the title of Masterchef when this restaurant struggles so much with providing decent food or reasonable service. The setting is lovely and the outdoor deck is lovely in summer. But so is the pub across the river which serves good food well.
I notice that they seem to be trying - especially in the service area, and good luck to them. But a long way to go.

“Not worth the money.”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

We have been to this restaurant several times. The view is lovely if you are sitting outside. However, inside is average. The food is nothing to write home about. The fish and chips are ordinary to say the least. The trout entree was very nice. The parking is always an issue and the restrooms may as well be owned by the Council, not up to a restaurant standard.
The staff are stretched to the limit and therefore the service is ordinary.I would highly recommend this venue for a refreshing beverage ,sitting outside on a sunny day.
