For starters, this hotel really isnt in the Yarra Valley and is no where near the wineries. There are so many B&B's in Yarra Valley that next time I will be staying there so I feel like I'm in a wine region. Secondly I don't think the hotel has ever heard of customer service before, we were there for a wedding and the amount of trouble people had with the staff was just incredible, I don't think there was one guest out of 40 rooms that didn't have an issue, either through the booking process or during the stay. The rooms aren't cheap by any means and the breakfast was rubbish and expensive also.

We stayed here for one night, at the start of a week-long trip to Melbourne (only two weeks prior to the devastating bushfires).

The check-in girl was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean, especially the bathroom. We didn't explore many of the facilities, but the buffet breakfast (included in our wotif rate) was very nice.

Would be happy to stay there again if it came up on a discount website again.

Don't book ahead as you will find they drop their prices on Wotif.com and mirvac.com once the 72hr cancellation has passed and existing booking can't be cancelled. We paid $225 for the 'discounted' wedding rate but could have booked on-line the day before for $179 Bed and Breakfast.
The rooms are tired, but are getting a facelift. Our room was adequate, although the carpet was extremely dusty under the desk and bathroom sinks very poorly designed.
The Restaurant menu looked very pricey and if the food is of the same standard as the breakfast I'm glad we did not eat there. Breakfast was shocking, most things had run out by 10:30, sausages on the buffet were cheap kranski like efforts and the bacon straight out the budget pack.
To top off an average stay our car was covered in bird crap and we parked in the undercover parking!!! The security gates are left permanently open hence its become a perfect nesting place for the local birdlife.
Come on Sebel get your act together.

My self and my wife choose to stay at the hotel because of its location.
When we arrived we were met by a person who appeared to be the Front Office Manager and as it was a busy time at the time we arrived we were given a very bad attitude and there did not appear to be enough staff working at the time.

Our room was a Deluxe room, over looking the back of the hotel.
The room was in very poor condition with scratches on tables and mould in the bathroom

The staff in the bar were very nice and treated us very kindly, much better than the gentleman that checked us in.

The next morning we were check out by a female who appeared to be the assistant Front Office Manager, she appeared very flustered and there was obviously not enough staff on.

We stayed here as part of a larger group, and although the location (beautiful) and ammenities (plentiful) were outstanding, the staff and their attitude left a lot to be desired.

We were "received" at check-in (you couldn't call it "welcomed") and sent to our room. The vague directions to the lift didn't help, and it took us some time to locate our room.

The complimentary bottle of wine was waiting in our room, but was white not red, as requested.

Our group had arranged golf and spa treatments, but were not offered any incentive for doing so. "We'd be booked out anyway" was the response. Nevertheless, while we enjoyed the spa treatments (of all the staff, the therapists were the most gracious and proficient), the golf "pro" who manned the shop and was responsible for seeing golfers to the course was both rude and dismissive.

Our biggest gripe was with Bella restaurant. My advice would be don't bother, and unless you have breakfast included in your tariff, $30+ for the buffet is exorbitant.

We had a room booked for all of us for dinner on the Saturday night, and it was like a scene from Fawlty Towers. We were there to enjoy a relaxing meal, but from start to finish took four hours, and the interaction between staff was embarrassing. My meal alone cost more than $70 for three courses, no drinks. Some courses came out late, others were luke-warm and I watched one staff member take 20 minutes to slice four pieces of bread.

I was in the checkout queue for more than quarter of an hour on our last morning, and when I reached the desk, there were at least 20 people behind me.

That said, I have since contacted management and received an apology, but this property has a lot of staff training to do before it even scrapes the surface of service excellence.

As we’re both not golfers the Sebel Heritage seemed like a strange place to spend several days of relaxation, however since most of Gippsland was on fire, holiday plans were quickly re-jigged.

We had booked into their one bedroom suites - the Magnolia Suite - which are located at the end of the building on each floor. After a breezy and friendly check-in, we walked to the end of the hall and opened the door and were both gobsmacked by the very comfortable size of the suite – combined lounge (one three person sofa and two lounge chairs) and dining area (setting for 6), bedroom with king size bed, full size drawers, cupboard and desk along with large sized television. Leading off the bedroom was the large bathroom, with spa bath, separate shower recess. There also was a separate toilet off the entry way. Our suite was on the ground floor and not only were the windows from ceiling to floor we had access to our private patio area. Extras for the suites are a CD/radio player – unfortunately we didn’t bring any CDs with us and the hotel didn’t have any iPod cables, they did, however, provide us with a DVD player at no charge.

The restaurant, Bella has a sophisticated menu which features local produce and the wine list has a varied selection of wines from local vineyards although the wines can be quite pricey (cheapest was around $48). As there seemed to be a few larger parties dining on the night we ate there, the staff kindly seated us in another section of the dining room, which we were thankful for. The food and beverage staff was incredibly knowledgeable, attentive and down-to-earth; the staff, food and wine really made our dining experience! Pre-dinner drinks at the bar were great too with a good range of wine by the glass and top-shelf spirits available. In our suite, a toaster and kettle were provided, I would have thought a tea pot and plates would be standard in all rooms although our requests for plates for cheeses, ice buckets, tea cups, plates and cutlery for in-house dining were no problem for hotel staff.

We made full use of the Heritage Spa and Retreat – the gym, steam room and indoor swimming pool, although we were tempted by the luxurious day spa treatments we were too busy relaxing to book an appointment!

If you don’t feel like getting in the car and exploring yet feel like being active, the resort has its own walking and bicycle tracks (you can hire bikes from reception) allowing you to experience the extensive gardens. If you are into golf there are two courses available for guests, one designed by Jack Nicklaus. There are two tennis courts but after reading the details you may want to pack your racquet as hire charges are pretty steep.

The Sebel Heritage is a perfect base to explore the Yarra Valley wine region. I think we chose a perfect time to visit as during the year the hotel is mainly used for business conferences and over the Christmas / New Year break it was mentioned that most of the guests were leisure travellers.

The Sebel Heritage is one of a very few mainstream accommodation styles in the Yarra Valley which is mainly known for boutique style hotes and b&bs. I'd considered staying there before for recreation, but was a bit of put off by the golf focus (it's also a residential community that backs on to a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course). However, last weekend we had a conference there for three days. The rooms were OK, service was great, but oh, the food.

The chef managed to reincarnate every dish at every meal into a varied form of its previous sorry self. Last night's lamb and vegetable hot pot turned into lamb on cous-cous with vegetables on the side. Last night's berry ice-cream (jam packed into a cup!) turned into 'cheesecake' the following night by slapping it onto a crumbly soggy bottom. A 'chef's selection' dessert was green, unidentifiable in flavour, was also rammed into a cup and resulted in visible grimaces of all who tried it.

Given that us Victorians pride ourselves on being the gastronomic hub of Australia, this type of cuisine will be enough to put the locals of this hotel!
