We stayed at the Mantra Ettalong beach in Jul 2009. We have 4 adults sharing one 2 bedroom apt and 2 adults and a 2 years old staying in a 1 bedroom apt. The 1 bed apt is very spacious and has all the items you required ie kitchen utensils, washing machine, dryer, spa bath, king bed etc. There is lovely view from balcony. The 2 bedroom apt living area is a bit small. Bascially the space in the 1 bedroom and the 2 bedroom are very similar. The 2 bedroom apt also have everthing we needed.

I contacted the resort before we got there to see if they can put us in the higher floors and away from the pool to minimise noise. They were very nice to put us on level 6 which is the highest floor before you get to the more expensive suites and they also give make sure the 2 bedroom an 1 bedroom apts are next to each other. This make is easier for my 2 years old to visit grandparents in the next room.

The resort has a beautiful pool (although we didn't use it as it was too cold). The resort is within walking distance to the beach and shopping area/ restaurants.

Overall we had a lovely stay

The hotel is quite spacious and modern and the room we stayed in was a decent size with a kitchen and laundry. The shower / spa bath was great and the room quite neat, however it is hard to get to sleep on a friday or saturday night as we were on floor one and got all the noise from the Restaurant / RSL underneath us.

Their website says Guarenteed water views, against certain room types, so booked a Deluxe one Bedroom for a 3 n ight stay, why else would you stay there if you don't get a water view right. Checked in to be told our room was on the pool deck, and no view, just of the pool, and no chance of moving us as they were fully booked, yeah great start . We did not even take our bags out of the car, and took one look at the apartment and overall situation and walked out, and if it was not for me kicking up a stink, and I mean a big stink, another apartment on the 3rd level with water views would never of appeared but the weekend never really recovered. Noise is a problem, from hearing people walking in the corridors, from the pool area and the RSL music in the evening, you can really notice that dbl glazing of windows would of been useful, especially rooms that overlook the pool.

Other than a gym, which is utilised by guests, residents and the community and the gorgeous day spa, you have to wonder can the really call themselves a resort. No access to a menu of any kind, (Not everyone enjoys a trip to the RSL), no mini bar, no cleaning of rooms unless you pay additional costs, indifferent check in staff, the blatant feeling of charge you all this money for a room, but then your on your own is the reason why I will not recommend this place to anyone. Different strokes for different blokes I know, and not everyone has the same expectations, but the basics are lacking here.

I went to the mantra with my partner over the easter weekend, when we checked in I was asked to show my credit card, WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE the girl took $100 and put it on hold! When you check out the money is returned to your account 5 days later!!
When we were given our room number we were dismayed to find we had been placed on the bottom floor next to the pool, for 2 days we woke up to the sound of screaming children.
We also had to keep the curtains closed the entire time because people relaxing next to the pool can see straight into the room.
On the second day there, I booked in to get a massage at the day spa, all was well until I went to pay and was informed that because it was a sunday there would be an additional 15% surcharge.
There is also no room service, and the only places to eat are the RSL club downstairs and a few thai restaurants down the road.

We stayed there 3 times in the last year. Recently we stayed in a 2 bedroom unit and that was disappointing. While the bedrooms are good and big, the lounge/kitchen area is very small for 4 people. The main balcony if off one of the bedrooms, so unless you are staying in that bedroom, you cannot even have a coffeee there in the morning. The other small balcony was also very dirty. The other 2 times we stayed in studio appartments. Both were very clean and quite spacious for a studio appartment. The poolside unit was great because of the views.

The club downstairs doesn't offer much and you need ID to get in. The resort doesn't offer much either apart from the units, pool and the views. If you happen to be there at busy times, forget about the spa. It is too crowded. If you book through the resort, you get pay movies, but not if you book through someone else. For us it is great because it is so close to Sydney and we stay there for a good rest. It is great for that, but not if you are looking for any type of action, or great food.
