Just returned from long weekend break at the Mantra with my husband. It was our first time at the Mantra, Ettalong Beach and the Central Coast.

We arrived at around 5.00pm on Sat evening and stayed 2 nights. We had a room on the second floor looking out onto the car park.

Great things about the Mantra: Easy, quick, friendly check in at reception. The room was clean and well appointed with a kitchenette, lounge, dining area, shower/spa bath, washer/dryer, hairdryer, Iron, fridge, tea towel, washing up sponge etc. Large comfortable king bed. Large spacious balcony.

Pool area was clean with lots of beds. Spa/Massage service and gym looked great too.

Our two night stay was quiet and undisturbed (except for the pool area as there were lots of children having a ball which didn't prevent us relaxing but might do if children's noise irritates you) which were looking for.

Not so great things about the Mantra:

Charged $100 room deposit for sundries upon check in which then takes 3/4 days to be returned? As the room turned out to be a non serviced room without minibar I can't see the point for the charge unless lots of people walk off with the crockery!

Lifts take forever and no stairs to walk down or up

Reception team uninformed about 'best places to eat in the area

No restaurant except for war memorial club downstairs (which is ok if that's what your looking for, we weren't) and limited supply of great cafes and restaurants in Ettalong. In the two cafes we tried near the Mantra were pretty poor

It's a pain having to go outside to get a coffee or food when you're by the pool area

Small print about being a 'non serviced room' not pointed out or reminded when we checked in ( we thought it was included make sure you check if you want your room made up). When we called down to enquire we were told 'it's non serviced room' and that was it. Another way to ad that extra wow could have been 'it's a non- serviced room madam however we can make up the bed on this occasion or provide some fresh towels as you didn't realise when you booked'

Only two bath towels, one face cloth and no hand towels in the bathroom

10am checkout! which in this day and age is ridiculous. When we requested a later checkout we were told firstly to come back after 5.00pm to double check how busy they were the next day? and when we did return that we could have until 10.30am as they weren't busy, and there after we'd be charged $20 per hour! It would have been nice to feel valued as a current customer not any less than a new customer. If they'd said ' normally checkout is 10.00am however as it's a public holiday we've extended checkout until 11.00am' that would have been fab

Overall, if you're looking for a quick break or are a family with children who love a pool and don't want many frills, despite the cost of staying at the Mantra it's fine.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking pool area will be noisy as lots of children use the pool. Rooms over looking carpark are quiet

The Mantra ticks all the boxes, great location, spacious rooms, balconies with lovely views, spa bath, all mod cons, but the hard and uncomfortable beds were a let down. While many places use the king sizes beds which can be separated into singles, these lacked a cover that masked the hard edges of the bed. This meant that we effectively slept in twin beds placed side by side. They didn't even use king size bottom sheets, rather two singles that overlapped. We'd happily stay again to gain all the other benefits, but would be more inclined if the beds were upgraded.

Stayed here for two days. Requested two bedrooms. Clean, spacious, and one had an ensuite with spa bath, which was a fizzer instead of a bubbler! Overlooking a car park and part of the Hinterland, which was ok for the short time we stayed. Plenty of blankets, pillows, and air-con in every room, and fully equipped kitchenette. No noise once you closed balcony doors. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only drawback was an older style t.v. and we heard room alarms going off ech morning at about 6.00a.m. Free undercover but not secured parking Walking distance to some nice shops and the RSL club next door.

Room Tip: Try to get rooms facing water.

A friend got married at the Mantra and we decided to stay there. What a fantastic stay??? The room was well appointed and we actually left the wedding reception early to enjoy the spa bath back in our room. The hotel staff were very friendly, when my husband was wondering the hallway aimlessly trying to find ice a lovely male staff member took the bucket off him and brought back a bucket of ice in a jiffy.

We have another wedding in the area later in the year, so we'll definitely stay at the Mantra again.

Room Tip: Was fantastic, we were on level 5 and we didn't hear a mouse all night...
