Maoutens Chambres d'Hotes

We could not have been made more welcome or better cared for in our five night B&B stay.

A sumptuous breakfast (including Fiona going out of her way to cater for a coeliac - and home made preserves), an idyllic setting near the peaceful canal (nightingales serenading us at night) and all the help we needed with information, for example, on places to visit, local restaurants and transport services and timetables. A comfortable sitting room to use, or the balcony or garden, and being able to make that all important morning cup of tea are special extras!.

Nothing was too much trouble for John and Fiona (who is a fluent French speaker) in their friendly approach, and we have no hesitation in recommending a stay at Maoutens.

Thank you very much for your generous comments Robert and Fran! It was a pleasure to welcome you to Maoutens and wonderful to get to know you both a little over the weekend celebrations for a mutual friend's birthday. You will be most heartily welcome should you ever visit this area again and I hope the rest of your break in France was relaxing and enjoyable. Very best wishes to both, Fiona

Perfect place to relax after a long journey cycling. The food is impeccable, Fiona, Kirsten and John are lovely people. Definitely worth the trip. Beautiful garden, peace and quiet is a recipe for a perfect holiday.

Thank you Christine for your very kind comments! It was a delight to welcome you to Maoutens and we enjoyed sharing your company at the marché producteur and over dinner. Thank you for the lovely photos of the animals and the wine tasting at Château Bois Beaulieu. Hope to see you again next year - happy cycling!

Fiona & John went out of their way to accommodate myself and two cycling buddies after a 100k cycling, Safe cycle storage, super bathroom with power shower, and home cooked food to die for, evening meal is an understatement it was a banquet with all local delicacies, I can recommend the home grown cherries in rum to chase the beautiful sliced duck, all washed down with a selection of local wines, was this really a guest house?
This Chambres D’hotes is perfectly situated on the Canal for your first nights cycle from Bordeaux, a full on multi course breakfast is supplied before you leave in the morning, we will be using again on our next trip in the area. 5 Star.
Very good value for money.

Room Tip: Only two rooms on our visit, both have use of own bathroom, very quite location

I was so happy to help you and the two Steves out Mike, as with everything booked in the area due to our annual music festival, cramming three grown gents into one room was preferable to you kipping out under the stars, especially as the weather wasn't too dry! I also enjoyed the blogs of your trip from Bordeaux to Montpellier by bike - thank you for the link. I wish all three of you the best of luck with your next marathon cycle run!.

We spent one night at Maoutens with Fiona & John and thoroughly enjoyed it. The accommodation was first class, location - well what can I say, we enjoyed an early evening walk along the banks of the Canal, stopping at a convenient kiosk for a drink. Aperitifs were served on the balcony, followed by a delicious bbq meal which we enjoyed with Fiona, John, Kirsten and friends. A memorable experience.

Breakfast was first class, she even managed to produce honey at my husband's request!

I would thoroughly recommend at stay at this oasis if you are ever in the area.

Room Tip: We had the canal view room which was very comfortable.

Thank you for your wonderful comments Margaret, it was a real pleasure to welcome Aberdonians to Maoutens and to hear the fantastic accent I grew up with, being an Aberdonian myself! We thoroughly enjoyed our evening shared with you, Francis and our friends. If you are ever back in this area, our door is always open!

Arriving hot, tired and sweaty after a days cycling Fiona made us extremely welcome and well refreshed. Later we had aperitifs, warm prunes wrapped in bacon, pate and toast and we accompanied Fiona, husband John and daughter Kirsten to an evening of food, drink and music in the village. A wonderful experience! A good nights sleep, a super breakfast and it was back on the saddles leaving our grateful thanks and good wishes behind. Worth experiencing.

Room Tip: Can't think of one it was so good.

My daughter and are are cycling the Canal de Midi. We loved staying with Fiona and John. After a long day on the saddle they welcomed us with open arms and a delicious bottle of cold water: pure bliss!!! Dinner in the terrasse was delicious and a real joy. If you are doing the canal don't miss this place. It's worth it

It was lovely to meet you and Amaya, Blanca and I thank you for your lovely comments on your stay at Maoutens. Your company was much enjoyed by all over dinner in the evening - your dynamism and conviviality is very infectious! Well done to you both with your 'périple à vélo' along canals and beyond!

We had the comfortable canal-side bedroom, with our own shower room & wc next door. It was a warm evening so we didn't use the sitting room. We arrived in time for a stroll along the leafy banks of the canal a few yards away. Fiona served apéritifs flavoured with home-made liqueur and accompanied by fresh tasty nibbles on the terrace overlooking the gardens, a lovely surprise. We enjoyed a BBQ supper with Fiona and her husband, whilst our young labrador (a trainee guide dog) raced around playing ball with their 2 well behaved dogs. Sadly we couldn't linger, we ate a hasty breakfast chosen from a table full of nice food and were on our way by 8am.
