“Excellent family room in country inn”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

Stayed here for two nights in February. Booked family room which was excellent - consisted of two separate bedrooms with shared bathroom all behind our own front doors. Very spacious and comfortable. Tea making facilities and large tv in both rooms was good. The food was very good - def restaurant not pub food, which presented a challenge to my daughter - however everything we tried was good, and the steak was reportedly "fantastic" Breakfast too was excellent - self service for cereal juice fruit etc with cooked breakfast cooked to order and served at table. Hosts were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about area. Short drive to Holy Island and Bamburgh which are worth a visit.

Stayed here for 2 nights 1-3 March. We had a warm welcome from the owner, William, who showed us to our delightful room which was comfortable, tastefully decorated and furnished. We had excellent dinners both nights we were there featuring local meat, fish and terrific cheese (try the Roxburgh Roondie). Breakfasts were also very good indeed with plenty of toast, fine kippers, bacon, sausages, black pudding etc. and perfectly cooked eggs. Local honey was also delicious. The draught beer in the bar was moreish and there was a superb display of malt whiskies and an amazing selection of gins (not all tried!). The wines we tried were first class and reasonably priced given the quality. Finally all who served us were pleasant, courteous and helpful. All in all a fine weekend. Thanks also to Katrina and William for the cheese they gave us to take home.

Visited this area for the first time with friends on our annual gastronomic trip to 'wild card' places that get a good reviews for food and accommodation. Our friends came up with The Allanton Inn and we were all delighted with the choice.

Great food cooked with responsibly sourced local produce and beautifully presented, extensive quality wine list and excellent local beers. The salmon smoked in The Allanton's own smokehouse was sublime, some of our party had it for dinner and breakfast.

Lots to see and do in the area, particularly for the active, it was February and we were not too active as we coming out of our winter hibernation in search of good food and wine.

Really worth a trip and highly recommend the Allanton Experience. Go for Hot Smoked salmon and Langlois Chateau Rose Sparkler.

The Allanton Inn exceeded our expectations for our short break in every way. Very comfortable and spotlessly clean bedroom and wonderful breakfast with a good choice of locally sourced food made it one of the very best B&Bs we have experienced. We chose to eat in the restaurant each evening of our stay and again the quality of food and service was outstanding. We have no hesitation at all in recommending the Allanton Inn to anyone looking to spend some time in the Scottish Borders. I am sure we will be back before too long. Thank you to William and all the staff.

The Allanton Inn has a great reputation locally so we thought we would give it a go and we were not disappointed! We booked in for a meal on Saturday night - upon arrival we were greeted warmly at the bar, our coats were taken and drinks were served. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. Once seated our food was served promptly and the food was amazing, I even managed 3 courses which is unusual for me! Must recommend the Lemon and Nutmeg Brulee, if that is on the menu when you go, please try it! It is out of this world! My husband also recommends the duck. It was full so would recommend booking. It has a lovely relaxed ambience and gorgeous decor. It is very good value for money and we will definately be back and have recommended to friends already. A lovely place x

Katrina and William, Michael and I would like to thank you for all your help and advice in planning our very last minute wedding reception. The service we received from you was exceptional - from the initial meetings to the actual wedding reception. The day certainly lived up to our expectations and more!! The room looked amazing, the food excellent and the staff on the day were so welcoming, helpful and friendly. Please extend our thanks to them. We both had a truly memorable, wonderful and special day. A very big thank you to Katrina for all your help during the preparations and allowing us access to one of the rooms upstairs for those of us with children for feeding, changing etc. We received many compliments from our guests regarding the food and service which we would like to pass on to you.

We would absolutely recommend you to anyone after good food, service and accommodation and we look forward to returning soon.

Thanks again

Michael and Rebecca Wastling
