Eating here was the worst mistake we made. I ordered chef's special Grilled fish of the day and my husband had the roast lamb after been told there was no gourmet sausages. My fish tasted like it had been left in the freezer for months dried up lost all its moisture and the veges were nothing to rave about. My husbands 2 miserably thin slices of tasteless meat didn't make him happy. we immediately left paying our bill reluctantly NEVER to return. I can't imagine this pub will be in business for too long.

We ate here a few weeks ago when they have their specials night on a Thursday. We had the special parma but if was luke warm, had been sitting in the warmer and had the topping put on at the last minute. It's probably the only parma I've ever had that has been tough! We made staff aware of our disappointment when we paid the bill - we won't be back for a parma - there are lots of other places around here to choose from!

We ve been at the Royal a few of times, some staff were excellent, but one particular staff was bad ,everytime, not just once.We stood at the bar for a few minutes while this dark skin bar lady ignored us as she was doing something else, didnt even care. It's like we were a distraction, then she ask...can i help you....well durrrr...she should NOT be in her job.Didnt smiled, looked bored and couldnt care less.It dampened our whole experience of the place.Another time a friend of mine explained to me he was at the bar only one metre from this same woman, she looked up at him from a job she was doing and looked away, she ignored him completely. He had to ask for service, she reluctantly stopped her task and asked him what he wanted, given the drink order once was not enough, she deliberately asked him THREE times clearly trying to antagonise him. He wanted to take this attitude further but decided he would take his money elsewhere instead, why put up with arrogance, What a shame since the place is so well run and presented,We end up buying alcohol at the BWS bottleshop at the hotel ,so we didnt have to put up with this woman.if she wasn't there,we'd bring our friends,we're big gamblers too,BIG lost ROYAL.Go to Windy Hill or Moonee Ponds Racecourse to avoid BAD service.

The Royal isn't the most ambient of places to have a meal. It's a bistro style restaurant, but the staff are friendly and the steaks are done well. Over the years I have come to the realisation that steak is a lot like fashion. Just as a stylish individual can make a Target skirt look like a Chanel....a good chef can make a cheap porterhouse into a thing of beauty. The steaks aren't the best quality porterhouse - the meal is $20 (with a glass of average quality shiraz or a beer) - but the chef is a marvel. Those steaks come out beautifully cooked every time. The salad is fresh and the chips are crunchy. You cannot ask for more than that. Actually, we do.... we also get the garlic and cheese bread. It's soooo good. None of this is fine dining and if you are a food snob don't bother coming here. But if you just want a nice steak, chips and salad for a really good price then I suggest you head to the Royal on a Monday night.

This corporately run pub is really as bad as it gets. Two chances, no third time. Each time, obviously overtly drunk people still getting served. Drinking games at 7.30pm and security ignores it? Another bloke spills his beer and uses a coaster to scoop the fluid on to the carpet. Had to be seen to be believed. We should have trusted our instinct on the first visit. Sadly, worked on the basis of a second chance. These establishments are a blight, yet other similar sized pubs nearby do it right.
