“Friday is Fish and Chips Night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2014

The Bishop John is now doing food Thursday - Saturday night and Sunday lunch. On Fridays the menu is limited to Fish and Chips (with mushy peas) as either eat in or takeaway. The quality of the Fish, Chips and Peas is excellent, consistent and very modern in presentation. At £7.50 eat In or £6.50 take-away it is fabulous value, especially if you can walk home in 5 mins! Long may it continue to be successful.

“Excellent Sunday lunch - exceeded expectations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2014

We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch at this friendly, traditional inn, and would thoroughly recommend a visit here. The hosts, Tom and Yvonne, provide a warm welcome and the locals are a friendly bunch also! We had the sirloin of beef, accompanied by a selection of fresh, well flavoured vegetables - the beef was absolutely delicious! The restaurant area and facilities are tastefully decorated. Haven eaten at a variety of other pubs/restaurants in the local area, the service and meal were 5-star; for people living in or visiting the Torbay area, this is well worth seeking out. A good selection of real ales is offered, so a treat for real ale lovers is guaranteed. Overall, a very pleasurable experience, and we will definitely be back to this well-run establishment.

“What a feast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2014

We have just eaten a magnificent meal at the Bishop John de Grandison pub in Bishopsteignton, Devon. This was a Sunday lunch to remember: courgette, feta cheese and mint soup followed by rare sirloin of beef and a cornucopia of delicious vegetables: red cabbage, honey-roasted carrots and parsnips, creamed swede, French beans and wonderfully crunchy roast potatoes. This was followed by a lemon posset and shortbread. The chef, Barry, was away but he left the cooking in good hands. Dan and Lindsay stepped into the breach splendidly. There is a great risk that diners could overeat for the landlord and his wife, Tom and Yvonne, have no concept of small portions. But this was a great treat by any standards and the pace at which the meal was served was just right. The ambience of this ancient and charming inn has been greatly enhanced by the quality of the food served and the cheerful service that accompanies it.

Try the sharing platter great for up to 4 people at £7.95. Main courses are huge. Rejuvenated atmosphere in a true local pub
