The Bridge Inn

We've just returned from two days at The Bridge Inn at Grinton. The food was amongst the best we have ever eaten in a public house hotel. The quality was excellent, the portion just right and the range of meals on the menu would put most top quality restaurants to shame. The specials on the menu were outstanding. The service was very good, they made my partner and I and our dog very welcome and comfortable. The rooms are modest, they are not luxurious, but for those with dogs and / or enjoy walking you do not expect nor need opulence. The location is superb especially for those who enjoy walking. You can start your walks right outside the front door and Swaledale has beauty, is unspolit and not too busy. There are a vast array of footpaths from the easy to the more strenuous.
The only tinge of slight disappointment was the beers. It is a CAMRA public house and in many respects the reasons for this are clear. However, the range of beers available during our stay was good, but we did drink some better pints at the Black Bull Hotel in Reeth and the Farmers Arms in Muker, particularly Theakston's Old Peculiar.
We would thoroughly recommend The Bridge Inn especially if you are, like us, walkers, dog lovers, appreciate a friendly welcome and wallow in peace, quiet and natural beauty.

We can't get enough of The Bridge, which is a shame because we live so far away we are only able to visit a few times each year. All the staff are so friendly and happy to chat. There are always dogs in the bar which always makes for good entertainment and the beer and the food is consistently good. Just wish it was my local!

From the moment you see the 'muddy boots welcome' board The Bridge delivers what it promises. Whilst it's probably more suited to walkers than a plush romantic weekend for two (the carpets have suffered from all those boots) it offers clean if dated bedrooms, excellent food and a good range of real ales. We were told by locals that the dinner menu would be a treat and we were not disappointed - very much restaurant quality rather than standard pub fare. The wine list was the most interesting of the week and for reasonable prices you'll find some gems.

Found this pub in the Pub Guide Book and had an excellent meal of duck breast, and venison.
Very friendly lively place which we can thoroughly recommend. Arrived very early evening but had immediate attention and prompt service.

Our walk into the village -- we approached along the 'scenic view' road, ironic given that every road leading to Grinton offers spectacular views -- only serves as a reminder of this wonderful inn.

But I wouldn't have known just how perfect this 13th-century inn was had I not been showing off for some sheep and fallen, thereby cracking my ribs and smashing my kneecap on the Grinton bridge itself during a late-night stroll through the village. Not only did the landlord, Andrew Atkin, arrange for my doctor's appointment the next morning (at the nearby clinic in Reeth), he drove me there himself AND offered to pick me up afterward, even though we at that point were moving (slowly) on to Redmire.

Add to this one of the best meals the three of us have had ever (and my son works in the business of fish); a warm and engaging staff; an exceptionally friendly local crowd; a glorious pub (we were there on open-microphone night, and the music and musicians were remarkable); a charming setting; a perfect view (of the churchyard) in a spacious, extremely comfortable and pretty room, all at a cost that was more than affordable, and we cannot recommend this inn too highly.

Just come back from a lovely weekend at the Bridge Hotel and can only say that we had a wonderful time there. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the locals too. The food was of top quality and a fair price, we ate there on both nights, a must is to try the belly pork, superb, breakfast was also excellent. The only downside was that the drink was a little overpriced! I would recommend it and will be definitely going back soon.

We've stayed at the Bridge a few times and it's always been good. It's a busy and lively pub that does accommodation and has absolutely excellent food. The rooms are relatively small but very comfortable - good sized wardrobe and plenty drawers, a number of sockets for chargers and hairdryers, a very comfortable bed and a nice view of the church. This time we had room 4 which did have a very tiny bathroom but it has a bath with an electric shower, good quality towels and some large bottles of very nice soap/shower gel and body lotion. The breakfast was really good - fruit juices, cereals, grapefruit, yogurt, lots of home-made jams and a choice of cooked breakfast from the full English to smoked salmon with scrambled egg. The dinner menu was superb - very nice food and beautifully presented - all the ingredients locally sourced and delivered daily. The staff are helpful and friendly. I would recommend it as a good base for anyone wanting to do some walking or just to visit the Yorkshire Dales.

Room Tip: Book in advance to make sure you get a table in the restaurant.
