We arrived in port for one day on a recent cruise and decided to head to the Butterfly Garden. We were traveling with my Mom, who is in a wheelchair, and two children (2 and 4), so we thought this would be a fun activity for all. We took a cab from the port ($6 pp) and arrived there around 10 AM. It is a great excursion for all ages and we really enjoyed ourselves. The butterflies were out in full force and it was amazing to stand there and watch them flutter by. The tour guide was informative and friendly and we learned a great deal that day. It was actually quite impressive to see the whole life cycle in real life. You learn about it in school...but to actually be able to flip over a leaf and see eggs there, or to see the new caterpillars lined up on the vein of a leaf....it was a fun experience. We saw all sorts of butterflies and enjoyed a relaxing visit. I would say that unless you're an avid photographer and want to spend hours there, it will probably take you only 1 to 2 hours maximum to enjoy, so I would pair it with another activity for a full day. The price was a bit steep (even with a cruise visitor "discount"). It was $72 for 5 adults and 1 child. However, the place is beautiful and if that was our contribution to keep it going, then so be it! They also included a cup of rum punch for the adults or plain punch for the children. There's a small gift shop with butterfly themed items for purchase. I agree with another reviewer...don't use this as a rainy day activity. They all hide when rain comes. When we first got there, there was lots of sun and the butterflies were all around. By the end of our visit, a rain cloud passed by and once it got cloudy, they were nowhere to be found! That was cool to see too! Definitely go if you get a chance.
