“Such a shame”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

Went here for lunch mid-week It was heaving and to be honest, apart from it's location, I couldn't say why. There was a very long queue to order food and there were only two staff serving, both of whom were doing drinks orders too. Strangely, I saw at least three members of staff wearing " Duty Manager" badges but really didn't get the impression that anyone was managing things. One of the peple in the queue infront of us got fed up of waiting and when we got to order our food we were told that there would be a 40 minute wait.

The food, when it came, was nothing at all to write home about, it was bland, microwave warmed food, for the most part.

It's such a shame. I have lived in this area all my life and The Beach is in a lovely spot. So much more could be done with this to make it more welcoming ( there was a sign near the door telling people to wait there to be seated, whilst we were in the queue for food, a good few people made the mistake of walking past it to try and find their our own table, and were sent back to the sign like naughty school children - had that have been me, I would have turned and walked away there and then!)

There is one particular member of staff, whose name I don't want to mention, who always gives the impression that he hates his job, and doesn't do much of a job of disguising that from customers. That in itself, I find off putting.

A lady came in with three teenage girls, one of whom was in a wheelchair and she brought them down to a table which involved her manoeuvering the wheelchair down some steps. As she was trying to sort the girls out and position the wheelchair, one of the staff came and told her that she couldn't sit there as they were going to use that table as part of a bigger group reservation, and then waltzed off without providing any assistance in finding another table, OR getting the wheelchair back up the stairs, so my partner helped her.

If you are popping in for a drink on your way around the lake, then The Beach is ok, but if you want somewhere nice to eat, with welcoming staff, and quality food, then this is not the place for you.

“Poor service,poor food,poor value”
Reviewed February 21, 2013 via mobile

We have been regular visitors to The Beach for many years but have seen a steady decline in all areas.
I understand the concept of family value pubs, but by churning out badly cooked food does not encourage families to return.
We went to celebrate my mothers birthday and only went here because she likes it.
However,we will not be returning, which is a pity as after a walk round the lake in summer it used to be very handy.
Value does not have to mean cheap.....management take not

“Great views and very family friendly”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

Depending on the weather, seating can be inside or outside in the beer garden. Food is the fairly typical pub food but they offer good value special deals. Play area for children outside - great on a fine day

“Yuck”

Food and service were not good at all, was very disapointed and would not recomend it to anyone. Venue is in a great situation but has a lot of competition,so it could try harder.
