“You need to be patient”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

We found them a bit tricky to see. They are very camoflaged when they are all curled up asleep. Drove all the way to the picnic spot without seeing any. Then on the way out we saw one, stopped and walked around and saw another 5 in the trees. So nice to see koalas NOT in a zoo!

“Meet the koalas :-)”

Great spot to watch koalas. Just outside the town of Kennet River. Take a walk down th4e path and watch up the gum trees. You will certainly spot them.

“Amazing wildlife experience”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

Tips:

- at the beginning of Grey River Road, only 20m or so from the Caravan park entrance, several koalas often hang out in the low branches of those gum trees (only a metre or so above your head!) and so I recommend parking and walking around on foot for the first 300m or so of road
- return to the car and slowly drive up the road, keeping an eye out for the many other koalas perched high up in the tall gum trees. Follow the S bends, then once up the hill on the straight there are usually quite a few in the trees
- there are glowworms at the picnic area up the road which are amazing at night

If you found these tips useful I'd greatly appreciate a helpful vote :)

“We saw dozens of koalas - so can you!”
Reviewed July 8, 2014

Make sure you turn off the main road some 15 minutes after Lorne on your way to Apollo Bay. Make your way up the gravel road that is well sign-posted. We were there around 10am and saw dozens sleeping and eating amongst the Eucalypts.
A good tip is to drive a kilometre or so up the windy road and stop and smell for koala droppings. When you smell the droppings (strong smell), find where there are fresh droppings and look up and you are bound to see many close by. At one such stop we spotted six of them amongst a dozen trees - some eating, some sleeping and some even more active.

“Terrific!”
Reviewed June 27, 2014

Saw so many koalas, right there next to the path! Wonderful! The only negative is that it gets busy with other tourists wanting to koala spot.
