“School trip”

Our school Class 2 (6/7 year olds) spent a full day at Hoghton Tower in March 2013. The staff were amazing, interacting well with the children all day. The kids loved going through the whole house, including the "dungeons", they were fascinated by all the history connected to the Tower. We have been 4 times now with the school and once independently as a family. Everything inside the house is in original condition, very well preserved.

“No disabled toilets - could easily be improved”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

I went to a wedding reception at Hoghton Tower - wonderful reception, beautiful building, very photogenic. Staff were lovely. Roaring log fires - very welcome on a cold day! Yet there wasn't any attempt to improve disabled access for a disabled wedding guest. It would not have taken much - a moveable ramp for the steps, a wider toilet cubicle - would have made a day much more enjoyable for the guest.
I would strongly recommend the trustees sort this out. In the meantime - if you have guests with disabilities - avoid Hoghton tower for your wedding reception. If you have a disability esp if you are a wheelchair user - be aware of very limited access - some of which cannot be altered due to the age of the building, some of which definitely could be improved.

Thank you for your review. We are very happy that you enjoyed the wedding reception. Hoghton Tower does have disabled facilities on site for visitors but due to space restrictions and listed building limitations there are no such facilities in the area used for private parties. We do point out the accessibility issues at the time of booking the venue. That said, we are taking your comments seriously and are looking at how best to cater for guests at future functions.

“Primary visit ~ An action packed day *****”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

My second visit to Hoghton Tower (previously with 90 KS1 children), this time with 50 F/Y1 children. The attention to detail and contact before and during the visit is superb.

The magical day (in the snow) began with our coach being greeted by our hosts (in costume) at the magnificent gates. We then had an action packed day including dressing up, tours of the rooms, fun in the dungeons and meeting 'special' guests. All in all a great day - many thanks to Anona and her team!

“August 1617!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

We took our year 6 children to HoghtonTower Tower on a wild and windy day in January. The staff were stood in the freezing cold waiting to meet us! From the moment we arrived we were looked after and attended to constantly. The house is beautiful and the tour very informative, with three lovely tour guides who were entertaining and knowledgable. The hot tea and coffee was a welcome treat and they went out of their way to open the gift shop for us! We will definitely be back and recommend it to teachers of KS1, KS2 & KS3 children.
Our topic was the environment -and what a fantastic environment it was!!
Thank you very much.

“A great day out for Primary school children with real attention to detail.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

We had a great day out with 60 KS2 children to link with our topic on the Tudors. Planning the trip was easy and staff responded quickly to e mails and were very informative. They couldn't have been more helpful.
As we arrived were greeted by our tour guides in costume at the entrance to the tower and all the children were immediately dressed up. Our guides for the day who were very informative and held the children's attention. The pace of the different activities was good. The building was well maintained and the staff were extremely vigilant with health and safety. It was great to be able to visit when they were closed to the public as we had the whole tower to ourselves.

This was our first visit but definitely won't be our last. Fantastic learning experience in a beautiful environment.
