“KS1 Trip - a fun educational day out for children”

We took 60 KS1 children to Hoghton Tower as part of our Fairy Tales topic. The children were all able to wear costumes (so did the teachers) and learn a lot of history during the day. The security of the site was brilliant - we were the only visitors there. The people who led the tours were really well suited for our age group, very enthusiastic and warm in personality. It was a brilliant day out and the children really enjoyed themselves. We will be visiting again next year. I would definitely recommend Hoghton Tower to schools.

“A fantastic learning experience for Primary Children”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2012

An excellent trip which we linked to our topic on the Lancashire Witches and James I - thoroughly enjoyed by both pupils and staff. Planning the trip was easy and nothing was too much trouble for them; it was tailor-made to our requirements - great communication even down to the postcard we received prior to our visit. All the staff were very helpful and our guides were extremely vigilant re health and safety/risk assessments etc. The tour itself was superb, interesting and informative - Anona, Dorothy and Richard had a good rapport with the children and they were extremely knowledgeable. The tour was well paced with a good range of experiences: touring some of the rooms; being knighted in the Great Hall; visiting the dungeons and meeting Jimmy; a fantastic collection of dolls' houses; hearing about some of the ghostly happenings; the antics of James I; dancing in the ballroom... to name but a few! This was our first visit to Hoghton Tower - but it certainly won't be our last! Thank you for a fantastic learning experience and a memorable day!

“A place with history.”

A good guide showed us around the historic building that is still residential, by the owners as well as the "Witches" that are reported to still prowl the house, worth a visit. Good food and plenty of history on hand, as well as a nearby canal that one can have a narrow boat trip.

“A great day out for KS1 children.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

I recently accompanied approximately 60 KS1 children on a fabulous day out to Houghton Towers. The day was varied, including designing a coat of arms/shield, dressing up as knights and princesses, an interesting and informative tour of the castle, a trip into the dungeons to meet Jimmy the resident skeleton and tour of the doll's house museum. The staff were lovely, helpful and kept the children's interest throughout.
Thank you all for a great day

“Excellent for primary school trips”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2012

Wonderful experience for KS1 from the time we were welcomed at the fortified gate by engaging, authentically dressed guides (including a jester!) throughout the entertaining & informative guided tour. Every child was able to dress-up for the day and given first hand experiences, like smelling an authentic powdered wig, which made this a memorable visit. Staff were most accommodating and went out of their way to make sure it was a successful outing and facilities for educational groups were well organized.
