Owner description: Hoghton Tower is one of Lancashire’s gems – come and find out why. A Tudor – Elizabethan manor and the ancestral home of the de Hoghton family, the Tower stands proudly on its hill overlooking the surrounding countryside. Join a guided tour of the panelled state rooms to hear about the history of the house, the family and the distinguished guests who have enjoyed the house over the centuries. Stroll through the beautiful walled gardens and take in the views. Kids will love the underground passages, the ramparts, dungeons and Dolls House collection. Take a browse in the gift shop and finish your day out in the tea room. Private and School tours available year round with prior arrangement. On the third Sunday of each month, come to our Farmers Market – ‘The Merchant of Hoghton’- a celebration of regional produce. Hoghton Tower can be hired on an exclusive basis for your private pary or wedding. Stay overnight in the Irishman's Tower. All income from tours benefits the Hoghton Tower Preservation Trust – preserving heritage for all.

A good guide showed us around the historic building that is still residential, by the owners as well as the "Witches" that are reported to still prowl the house, worth a visit. Good food and plenty of history on hand, as well as a nearby canal that one can have a narrow boat trip.

I recently accompanied approximately 60 KS1 children on a fabulous day out to Houghton Towers. The day was varied, including designing a coat of arms/shield, dressing up as knights and princesses, an interesting and informative tour of the castle, a trip into the dungeons to meet Jimmy the resident skeleton and tour of the doll's house museum. The staff were lovely, helpful and kept the children's interest throughout.
Thank you all for a great day

Wonderful experience for KS1 from the time we were welcomed at the fortified gate by engaging, authentically dressed guides (including a jester!) throughout the entertaining & informative guided tour. Every child was able to dress-up for the day and given first hand experiences, like smelling an authentic powdered wig, which made this a memorable visit. Staff were most accommodating and went out of their way to make sure it was a successful outing and facilities for educational groups were well organized.

We took a couple of relatives from Canada and they were very impressed. We took the guided tour and enjoyed the anecdotes and historical tidbits.
The house is not a Chatsworth or Blenheim but has it's own unique charm. It was very quiet on the day we visited but that just meant we were given even more personal attention.
The Tearoom was also very nice in a homely sort of way.
Strangely, the gift shop had nearly no memorabilia or guide books about the house!
