i was with bunch of friends last weekend in Maratua island. we stayed here and it was amazing! they have a lovely view at the resort, the sunset is really pretty and the food was GREAT! the staff are very friendly, they always cooked extra for us for breakfast and our dinner as well :)

It was my first time to stay in Maratua island but i already stayed in derawan island also before.. but i recommended to stay in maratua island cause its not crowded like derawan island. and definetely i will go back to maratua island and stay here cause the island looked more beautiful than derawan.

i am highly recommended to stay here if you are looking for a nice guesthouse, friendly staff, clean room, good food, nice view and not expensive one :)

We were a bunch of friends, 13 people to go to Maratua and stay in Maratua Guesthouse for 3 days on November 2013.

First thing to say is that Maratua is much more bigger than Derawan and still really less crowded. Only 2 other resorts (very expensive) operate there, one on the same side as the guesthouse, one on Nabucco island which is in the atoll. So most of the tourists we saw stayed on Derawan.. It is one of the reason that led us to prefer Maratua island.

We had an excellent time there, everybody was very happy about the accommodation. It is very friendly and in excellent condition. Almost everybody felt at home (understand close to nature, as we like it). Because it just opened in August 2013, some minor fitting out missing (like path in wood above the corals between bungalows, shop in or close to the guesthouse) but wasn't a problem at all.

The view on the sunset is superb and you can then enjoy a very beautiful starry sky.

The owner, Jun, will be there to welcome you and help you so as to make your stay in Maratua guesthouse very great. He is a really nice guy and excellent cooker! We had some grilled barracuda for dinner, delicious.

After more than 3 days there, almost alone, it was hard to come back in Jakarta! I definitively would like to come back there to finally see the manta we missed in Sangalaki. We had one spectacular dive in Barracuda point on Maratua. Amazing with hundreds of Barracuda and sharks hunting..

So I highly recommend this place which is, in my opinion, a real better option than Derawan.

It was a pleasure to have your group and you were a great organizer. We're so happy that you enjoyed the Barracuda dinner. Definitely come back and swim with the manta rays off of Sangalaki. We'd love to have you again!

Our group of 13 friends had the pleasure to come and spend four nights at Maratau Guesthouse. Jun is the owner of this beautiful piece of paradize, located on Maratua island, a little hour further than Derawan island, and a lot quieter.

You will be amazed by the place: arriving by boat to the small jetty, climbing a few steps and already inside the main "living" room, with tables, seats and hamocs for everyone to enjoy the sunset right in front of you.

But the best part is yet to come: the dinner cooked by Jun himself, a veritable cordon bleu! Every days we were looking forward to the evening dinner, where Jun proposed all kind of dishes involving fresh fish or chicken and a huge variety of sauces and spices. You will be delighted!

Sleep is as simple as you could expect it in such a remote and humid place, but the rooms are clean with an attached bathroom and Jun provides fans, mosquito repulsives, mosquito net, towels, soap, etc... Everything to make your night as comfortable as possible.

There is no better place to visit in Maratua, and I don't think there's a better one in Derawan itself... I highly recommend!
