So the upsides: reasonable rate, good location.
Now the rest…
The instructions posted to you when you make a booking are to proceed along the top road to find the location map. WARNING: there is an unmarked and aggressive speed bump. The map is slightly obscure and on a building to your right.
The cabins have numbers. However when the door is open you can’t see the numbers on some cabins. The door had been left open on our cabin so finding it was non-trivial.
The cabins are built of uninsulated single skin timber which means they bake in summer and likely freeze in winter. The door had been left open which dissipated some of the heat but let in countless flies. Not good.
The cabin had an unpleasant smell - difficult to describe. The windows were dirty, one pane of glass was cracked; you could see light through cracks in the wall in two places; the extractor in the kitchen was clogged and didn't work; the cooker was very old and had no lights to say it was on; the floor by the bath was rotten; several lights didn't work; the electric shower ejected water from the pressure relief making the flow almost unusable; the fridge light didn't work; the kitchen hot water is so slow it’s easier to boil hot water in the kettle; the cabin is unbearably hot when sunny and cold in the morning; the bathroom sink gurgles.
If you’re on a budget and can put up with poor maintenance it’s okay. Otherwise worth looking around.
Brilliant little getaway, beautiful surroundings with a perfectly clean lodge. Staff are always the most down to earth/polite people you could ever wish to meet. Great grounds, great location and a great time! 100% recommend!
I booked this break away after a recent bereavement in the family, for us all to relax and de stress etc. Unfortunately, the accommodation was absolutely filthy. Please see the attached, photographs. I understand that the place wouldn't be completely spotless, because the accommodation is aimed at family's with young children and dogs etc, but this place hasn't been touched in months. Coming from an hotel accommodation background myself, I have a lot of experience in managing housekeeping and cleanliness standards etc. The shower tray was full of someone else's hair. The decor and furniture was covered in dust and cobwebs. The curtains were all moldy. This accommodation was suppose to be self catering, so that we could cook a meal at home etc but the cutlery, plates and pans were thick in grease. The oven was an absolute disgrace and how they expect family's to have a self catering experience is beyond me.
All our clothes were covered in dog hairs as the place was not cleaned prior to our arrival and by the looks of it, not cleaned properly for months
At £620 for a week it's not particularly cheap, but of course the price is irrelevant, as the place should be fit for the next family to inhabit. We contacted Wales Cottage Holidays and emailed the Timber Hill management team to be told by Wales Cottage Holidays, that we should have told them sooner than the Monday after arriving on the Saturday and thinking that nobody would be working over the weekend. Wales Cottage Holidays said that they would look into it and get back to us !!!!!! The owners of Timber Hills stated that "I would not like you to think we are connected to the booking you have made, and the very unfortunate experience you have encountered. The lodge is privately owned which I think is let out through an agency; Wales Cottage Holidays it appears to be. We do not use this agency for our lodges. We wish you well and trust you achieve a satisfactory resolution." This is a very frustrating experience, as nobody wants to take responsibility or accountability for the booking that we made and everyone seems to be blaming someone else for the state of the place. I am writing this feedback, in order to warn others about this place, but unfortunately looking on trip advisor just now the place seems to be fully booked months in advance, so it may be too late for some.
