What a wonderful experience this turned out to be - we arrived on a cold day, without a reservation and were greeted by a roaring fire by the owner and his wife who proudly showed us to seats by the fire.
The food and wine were really authentic and carefully prepared with good ingredients. We began with 3 different starters, the local (Benimantell) sausages which were extremely tasty, a plate of crispy fried slices of artichokes and fresh baby squid (chipirones).
This was followed by the local stew (Ollet) served with rice - generous portion of steaming "soup" laced with vegetables, meat and rice (oh so welcome given the cool weather outside). One of our guests had lamb chops, and the other had a sirloin steak which she pronounced as being really tasty, but in parts a little tough.
The service was great with the owner showing genuine concern at our opinions of the food. The wine was correctly priced, and the ambiance was magnificent.
We shall definitely return as this was a wonderful experience and a great way of spending an afternoon on a cool day, enjoying well prepared wholesome food, with great friends and good friends.
