Alex and his family really make you feel welcome and at home. Alex is full of information about the area and all of Costa Rica. He and his family make you feel welcome and at home. The breakfast is very good. The setting is a small natural second growth location where many birds come including Green Macaws. After sunset the frogs come out. Comfortable rooms with mosquito nets and good showers with hot water. Form here you can go to La Selva, Rafting on the river etc.

This is a special place to stay. Birds and other wildlife are everywhere and you get an excellent opportunity to take photos as the birds come to eat the fruit which is put out for them. The accommodation is quite individual mostly consisting of rooms in cabins in the grounds but there is also a tree house which offers lovely views from the balcony. My room was spacious and felt cosy even when the rain was hammering down! Alex is a great host. His home made bread is wonderful and the jam was the best on the trip! Breakfast could last all morning! We also went to Alex's rehabilitation centre where injured or abused animals and birds are nursed back to life to be set free.

Room Tip: Apart from the tree house the rooms were on the ground floor and offered plenty of space-ideal for f...

We stayed in this posada for three days and it rained continuously. Our room was attractively furnished and had screened windows and a fan. We had asked about the tree house, but its leaky roof was being repaired at the time. The breakfasts were very good, and Alex Martinez was a good host, sometimes giving us rides to areas in the town which was about a 15 min. walk away.
Everything in the room worked as it should, and the linens were high quality. Alex had a monkey that was brought to him for doctoring so we had the pleasure of seeing a monkey up close (in a cage).

I would stay here again and would recommend this posada to family/friends.

We just love staying at Posada Andrea Cristina. It's a little oasis of birds and animals. The place is very clean, the breakfast is delicious and Alex and family are so warm and welcoming. We enjoy being able to walk to the village. This little oasis is full of life. The sunrise is magic with all those birds. For a nature lover as me and my daughter, This was one of the best. Planing to go back next year!
thank you Alex for such a great time!

When we first arrived here, it was like walking into another world, coming from the street and walking into this lush jungle garden with cute cabins and porches with hammocks. We were lucky enough to be near the breakfast area, which meant we had wifi reception at the edge of our room / at the porch.

The place was swarming with mosquitoes and other flying bugs at night though, which made sitting outside a bit uncomfortable. Inside it was quite hot and the fan didn't seem to move any air. The rain made the room very dark and damp and steamy, which wasn't very pleasant to sleep in.
During the night, big trucks were constantly driving by, their breaks and engines making loud noises and making our entire room shake. Not exactly a peaceful sleep. From 5 a.m. a nearby gym (? or bar, I'm not sure) started blaring out it's 90's hits.

Some floor boards were creaking dangerously, but we didn't expect to actually fall through the floor with bed and all, which happened in the morning. Alex was very apologetic about it and told us termites are a problem at the moment. Luckily noone got hurt, but it did scare us.

The amazing breakfast (I'd say the best we had in Costa Rica) and the friendliness, kindness, enthousiasm and positive energy that breathed and sparkled from Alex couldn't change our minds to stay here another night and we wouldn't return either. The rooms and all the wood used in it looks beautiful, the garden looks great and we also saw the sloth with a baby walking around. Unfortunately all that wasn't enough to make up for an uncomfortable sleep, which is in essence what we look for in an accommodation.

We were there with an Intrepid travel group. With their max-size of 12 people we just fitted in this nice little B&B. They have some rooms, which work for couples, friends and families as well as a number of tree-houses - for those who want the real jungle feeling. All set in a tropical garden. Having breakfast in the patio with lots of birds around during the day and lots of fascinating frogs during th night. Nice breakfast with fresh fruit, cheeses, omeletts etc. to help you start the day. Nothing to complain at all.

thanks to Alex who looked after me very well. It was lovely to rest in a hammock in the tropical garden and then go on a boat trip on the peaceful Rio Sarrapiqui. Alex kindly ran me there, introduced me to the boatman, and told me of a good place to eat after. His wife was very kind too, and gave me hot water for tea at night. The next day, after a wonderful breakfast in the garden (delicious tropical fruit, Alex's scrumptious home-made bread & jam, tasty scrambled eggs), he again made a special trip to take me 16km to las Horquetas for the trip to Rara Avis, as he was afraid I would be late.
I didn't stay long enough to see the rescued animals mentioned by the other reviewers, with whose fulsome praise I agree, but if I ever go back to Puerto Viejo, I shall certainly stay here & do more!
