After a 14 hour flight and a short stay in San Jose, we stayed for 5 nights in El Bambu, which we reserved via internet. The reception welcomed us with tropical drinks. At special request of our boys (9 and 11) we could change our room for two days for a room at the nice swimmingpool  (The other days these rooms were already reserved).
El Bambu is by design a perfect introduction to The rainforest.
We also liked the restaurant with friendly staff and fine card with very reasonable prices. Many local people also visited this place. We used al our breakfasts and diners there.
Rooms were of good quality, and El Bambu was for us a good startingpoint for trips as  the skytrain and chocolate tour, nearby.
We enjoyed most the hospitality. Hotelmanager Ronald, a very friendly guy, spend quite some time helping us personally to plan a trip to Tortuguero. Via his contacts we could book a trip including canaltour and turtletour, for a good price. On our tour we saw massive boats with many people,  but we had our  private guides and boats of top quality!

We recommend El Bambu for a pleasant stay, in a friendly and inspiring rainforest environment with great service, good restaurant with very reasonable prices, and as convenient startingpoint for nice trips.

Room Tip: For party with kids, try to reserve a room at the swimmingpool.

Having reserved over the internet, and arriving after dark, I was a bit apprehensive as our group (4 couples) pulled up in front of El Bambu. The hotel fronts on the main street, and was less than impressive in the dark. After checking in, an easy thing to do, we were directed to our rooms. As we started along the wooden walkway leading to our rooms, we began to enter another world, a mini rainforest, well hidden from the street. In the morning, when we were able see everything in the light of day, El Bambu was even more impressive. What a wonderful chioce we had made. I cannot praise the staff highly enough. A burned out light bulb was replaced immediately, and when another of our party had a problem with the AC remote, the owner personally made sure the problem was resolved. The food at the ajoining restaurant was very good and the wait staff caring and attentive. We ate breakfast there every day, and dinner several times. there are not many chioces in the small town. The presentation of the meal was worthy of an expensive restaurant, and the prices most reasonable. The hotel arranged several excursions for us, and all went off without a hitch. Our stay at El Bambu was a most rewarding and pleasurable experience and i highly recommend El Bambu to all.

We stayed at El Bambu for only one night after visiting Braulio Carrillo National Park. It's a nice hotel with the rooms tucked back in the forest. The restaurant at the hotel was decent, but not great. The rooms were clean with good a/c and nice beds. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

We stayed in El Bambú for three nights on our tour of Costa Rica. We came with a group of 8 teenagers and 5 adults. Both the kids and the adults loved the hotel. The rooms in the back of the hotel have the rainforest as their backyard. You pass a lovely wooden walkway in order to reach them. The rooms are spacious and are very private. This is the kind of hotel which is suited to groups, families, or even couples looking for a getaway. There is a pool that our kids enjoyed very much. The food in the dining room is delicious and plentiful. The hotel is green and has earned 2 leaves in a 5-leaf system. The manager of the hotel is always on site and all of the personnel are very helpful and accommodating. I visited this hotel four years ago and they have upgraded and added a lot since my last visit. I look forward to coming back again and I would highly recommend this hotel. Puerto Viejo is a quiet town and it is fun to wander around and visit the small shops and restaurants.

Room Tip: The rooms in the back look onto the rainforest!

Imaginative layout of the rooms follows an elevated boardwalk back into the forest, away from the town. Rooms are good sized with very private balcony porches. Good A/C. Nice showers.
Located in a quiet typical small town that is pleasant to explore, friendly people, non-touristy.
Friendly helpful staff, nice pool, good restaurant.
Convenient base of touring the area (Tirimbina, Pozo Azul, research station, etc)

There is nothing much to do within Sarapiqui so make sure to pack you days with activities outside the city.

Aboot the El Bambu:

Liked the most:
- The pool area
- The rooms

Liked the least:
- The inconsistent service - some staff were very friendly and spoke english while others didn't seem to know or care much
- The restaurent - poor and overprised food compared to the options nearby

We stayed for few days to discover the locality of La Selva biological reservation. Overall, the city and its surroundings is pretty poor , so you could consider hotel El Bambu to be a luxurious hotel, which you could see on its prices. However, I wanted a clean, quiet, safe place to stay and that definitely was met. The rooms seemed to be renovated. As the price was pretty high compared to other places we stayed in, I would expect the breakfast to be included in the rate.
The hotel is in the city center, so even if you come with a bus, the bus stops directly in front of it.
