We loved this hotel. Food excellent, room excellent. Good gym & swimming pool. Good bar. We got a great deal on 3 nights b&b and 2 dinners. We were happy.

  • Liked — The food in the restaurant on the top floor.

Stayed in this hotel for one night. Had a large room with a wide screen TV and very large bathroom. Dinner was good, no complaints. Breakfast was excellent, huge choice of fruit, breads, juices and hot buffet. Nice view from the hotel restaurant. Very helpful front desk staff. Only complaint is there is no complimentary internet but that is a minor quibble.
Very pleasant experience.

Just back from a 3-night stay in the Talbot Carlow. Got an amazing value deal..just €258 for 3 nights B&B plus 2 dinners! And that was for 2 adults and 2 kids...we only had to pay extra for the kids dinners.

Staff were very good and we had a very relaxing stay. I stay in a lot of hotels on business and the Talbot rooms are definately a lot bigger than average...we had a double, a single and an extra bed for our 2nd child...and there was still plenty of space. There is an LCD telly, tea/coffee and a proper iron and ironing board in the room.

There is a good gym and a nice pool with sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. The pool was a little cold though..we never seemed to be able to warm up in it. The pool area could do with some colourful lighting...its quite dark. and a bit sparce. But thats a minor niggle in the overall scheme of things.

The food was fine, if not brilliant, but based on what we were paying we couldn't complain.

The hotel is a couple of miles from the town centre, but on the upside its next to the Dome, which has a huge soft play/ climbing frame play area for kids as well as having ten-pin bowling.

I'd love to see....
A warmer pool!
A dvd played for the kids on the mezzanine

Overall, great value in a very good hotel...we would go back again (as would the other 3 people before me at checkout, they were all raving about the hotel!!)

Stayed here with a group of workmates for the Xmas party. A good night was had by all. After checking in found the room to be quite large with a well stocked bathroom. Tried out the leisure facilities which I found to be first class. The bar was welcoming and the staff courteous and attentive. The meal, which was standard fare for a Xmas party, was very good and the entertainment great. Breakfast next day was substantial with views from the 4th floor restaurant very good, though as this is one of the flattest parts of Ireland not awe-inspiring.

Stayed here for a 3 night break which was without doubt the best time I have had in a hotel in years. All the staff were extremely friendly and full of knowledge, especially Sue at reception and JP at the bar and Rafal in the fine dining restaurant.

Everything from the room, Food & Drink, leisure centre was great. I would highly recommened this hotel for young and old looking to escape for a while.

Fantastic location, fantastic staff, fantastic hotel....need I say more?

Ok, i was on busines for a few days in carlow, so my company booked me into the Talbot, which from a previous visit to talbot Wexford i was delighted (talbot wexford by far one of the nicest hotels in ireland) Unfortunatley is younger sister (talbot calrow) is no where near as nice as Wexford.
Couple of Points:
1. check in Staff were lovely/efficent & friendly.
2. Rooms were ok, but felt cold and may i say damp and smelly, for a new hotel i was expecting fresh and clean.
3. Lift had a mind of its own, stopping on every floor along th way, i'm not a very patient person.
4. Was entertaining a few corp clients and decided to have Dinner in the Rooftop Restaraunt - the Website Say's "With stunning views of the countryside, the 4th floor Liberty Tree Restaurant offers guest a unique and memorable dining experience" yes it was memorable alright, we were put in a corner table looking at a wall, there was 3 other table in the same corner looking at the wall. i felt like the staff wanted use to hurry up and get out. its a pity we werent put in the other corner with the glass so we could have seen some of the "Stunning View"
the food itself was more like Pub grub served on cold plates and just slopped onto the plate, i asked fora steak medium and it was burnt to a crisp.
5. After the experience of the Restaraunt we went to the Bar for a recovery drink, the bar was lovely and well maintained and stocked there was one other table (a loving couple) which is unusal for a big hotel, after a night of drinking into the early hours (2.45am) we were told to leave the bar as the "night Porter" had to clean and couldnt do it with us there..................... i have no more to say on this matter.
6. As with drink and a disasterous meal (i wasnt full) i rang for Room Service "24 Hour Room Servie" and asked for a Plate of Sandwiches & a Jug of water, i was told by the Same (Non Irish) Night Porter that there is no room service available, in turn i remarked on the "24 hr room service menu" stating you have to serve because its advertised. with this to my amazment he hung up..............................
With this i rang back thinking he was cut off. NO ANSWER

NO ANSWER. well my friends i dont usually write for this long but with such an experience i feel i have to let you other trip advisors know.................................... The Talbot Hotel Carlow.............NO ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed recently in the hotel. The atmosphere for the love birds may be good however for any serious visitor this is a terrible expeirnce.

1. When I checked in, almost for an hour the electrictiy was not working. the guy took 1 hour to correct a fuse
2 they promised complimentary internet. It was not working and the guy didnt have any clue how to check and why.
3. they cant simple set your alarm. No one woke me up in the morning. thanks to my mobile alarm I was on time
4. room service is terrible
