“Excellent for a small lunch party!”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

A small( 9 ) group of " midlands mates " met here for a celebratory New Year lunch on January 2nd 2013. The owner/manager looked after us personally, providing us with a comfortable private room and a large round table which greatly facilitated us in settling the affairs of this benighted nation! A splendid - and good value - menu and a small but adequate wine list, with excellent and unobtrusive service ensured a very enjoyable "gathering". Having assembled at 1.00 pm we were still chatting animatedly at 5.30. Enough said!

“Dreadful experience”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We visited this hotel recently , upon suggestion of someone else in our party. We were not staying over night, but were meeting some family members to eat.
When we entered the hotel it appeared quite dated & in need of a face lift. We decided to eat in the bar as the resturaunt was not very inspiring.
I found the bar to be very dark & out-dated. There were a few people in the bar but there was no atmosphere about the place.
We sat at a table & a waitress came over with placemats & menus. 4 of us were eating that evening. There was no offer of taking a drink order & we had to go up to the bar for this. I personally thought the menu was very expensive ,for bar food. Starters were at least 7e each & an example of a main courser was a Burger with fries for 15.25e. I know lots of other bars & resturaunts offering similar food for a lot less. 3of us ordered the 'Special Burger' & 1 of us ordered what on the menu was called a 'Chefs special Hamburg' !!??!!
Our food arrived & I was immediately disappointed. There was nothing gourmet about the food, considering their inflated prices. The Burgers were NOT home-made & were on soggy, pre-frozen Burger Bundys. Similar to what can be bought in any supermarket. The onion rings were soggy & greasy. We were given our chips separately. Apparently we were given 4 portions of chips in one big dish. But it was clear there were probably only 2 portions in the dish. But we didn't finish them anyway as again they were soggy & greasy. They had the appearance of frozen oven-chips that had been fried in pile which wasn't hot enough. Seriously how difficult is it to fry some chips !???!!
We also ordered a portion of chicken goujons. There were disgusting as they tasted of fish. It would seem they had possibly been fried in the same oil they used to cook their scampy.
My mother in law ordered the 'Hamburg' ! On the menu there was no mention that it was covered in onion & that onion was also what made up a large part of the filling. Unfortunatley she cannot eat onion, therefore her meal was uneatable for her :(
Again any time we needed another drink we had to try find a waitress or wait at the bar until the barman returned.
When our table was cleared, at no time were we asked was the food ok ? Clearly it wasn't as a lot of our food was still on our plates. Aprox 10 minutes after our food was removed a waiter arrived to take away the remaining cutlery & condiments & he said " I presume no-one awaits dessert ?" He had 1 dessert menu in his hand & left with it before waiting for an answer as to wether anyone did want dessert or coffee !
All in all not a good evening. Between 4 of us we had 3 cokes & 2 pints of beer. 3 Burgers, 1 Hamburg & a portion of Chicken goujons. Most of it was inedible & we were charged 105e for the privilege !
NEVER AGAIN will I enter this place or EVER recommend it to anyone.
Decor old & dingy, No Atmosphere, Little or no Service, Over priced unappetizing food & a large bill at the end of it all, with no option for dessert.
