Lovely food, Lovely Staff, A little too noisy but worth a visit. Located by the theater and art centre. Close to Carlow town centre

I have eaten here on many occasions, usually for Sunday brunch. This is a family-run restaurant that prides itself on sourcing local produce. As a result, the food is excellent. The service is also very good and Sinéad's welcome is always warm.

I have eaten at Lennons on many occasions, alone or with partner and/or friends. It has always been at least very good but last Sunday it was better that that. There were two of us.

Starters were a crab gratinée (with generous chunks of crab, with cheese, parsley, great balance of flavour and texture) and scallops with garlic butter. The scallops were perfect. A nice chunk of bread for the delicious residue in shells would have been welcome but otherwise there was no room for complaint. Roast rare rib of beef was tender and flavoursome and accompanying vegetables (cauliflower, lightly dressed with cheese and broccoli, both cooked to the right balance between chewy and tender) and roast potatoes were excellent. The second main (a brunch dish) was herb and garlic sausage with two fried eggs and delicious potato wedges). We both chose rhubarb and orange crumble, refreshing flavours after the rich mains, mercifully free of the oversweetening that often ruins this kind of dish. With a glass of wine each (the Tempranillo was great with the beef), 1 americano and 1 double espresso.

Service was excellent throughout, efficient without being rushed. This is how restaurants attached to public galleries should be. A great place and one that adds greatly to a visit to a Carlow's magnificent VISUAL, Centre for Contemporary Art and George Bernard Shaw Theatre complex where Tadhg McSweeney's superb exhibition runs upstairs in the two main spaces.

It's Saturday,February 23rd and it's snowing outside! It's somebody's birthday and six of us - two from S.Kildare and four from E.Cork - are on the way to Carlow for an afternoon/evening of cultural and culinary delights. We stand on the steps of The Visual Centre for Contemporary Art and George Bernard Shaw Theatre and look across the snowdrop dappled lawn at the Georgian-style St.Patrick's College and the Victorian-Gothic post-emancipation Carlow Cathedral.Immediately below us the late afternoon light glistens on the wonderful Eileen Mcdonagh's stainless steel tree.
Inside " The Visual" we view Tadhg McSweeney's intriguing and enigmatic "Edifice Complex".In the Main Gallery we see,at a distance, the most powerful element in the whole installation. Is it a great metropolis or a ghost estate or both? In the Link Gallery the teenagers among us are particularly delighted with the moving elements in the show.....
But it's time to go downstairs to Lennon's@Visual, a lovely contemporary restaurant, where we all enjoy - including two who choose the vegetarian option - a nicely varied and great value "Early Bird". Prompt and pleasant service and a lively Spanish Tempranillo - one of the house reds - ensure that we are all very happy diners!
A reluctant departure from Lennons takes us to The George Bernard Shaw Theatre where The Carlow Little Theatre Society are reviving Martin McDonagh's The Beauty Queen of Leenane.A wonderful production,a constant roller-coaster from hilarity to horror, leaves us reeling! (Druid eat your heart out).
On the way out we pass Lennons, still busy and buzzing.A few minutes walk away two other restaurants, Mimosa Wine and Tapas Bar and Brasserie 15, are also lively and bustling. For more culture the splendid Carlow Library and the newly housed remarkable Carlow Museum are also here for daytime visits.
Now, if we can revive the Carlow (Kellistown) Races and persuade the Phoenix of Irish Political Parties to pitch a big tent there (joke) Galway will have to close down (another joke?)!

I have to say this was one of the nicest dinners I have had in a long time! This restaurant ticked all the boxes for myself and my husband. A lovely, warm atmosphere, extremely helpful staff topped off with the most delicious fish pie I have ever had. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for tasty food at a very reasonable price.
